Back in 2007, "The Dark Third" was a real revelation for me. Coming from United Kingdom, Pure Reason Revolution started its career with a really refreshing and original album. Obviously, the band was already one of the most innovative and original combo and "Amor Vincit Omnia" will follow this trend, even if this time, it should be a bit more polemical?

"Amor Vincit Omnia" will be surprising for the ones who know the previous release of PRR. Ok "The Dark Third" was already a bit Pop and not really Metal but the second album of the British act is a lot more unconventional. Between Pop, New Wave and even Industrial/Electro with as always some strong Progressive influences, we're in front of a real unexpected release. With an alternation of male like female vocals, with a lot of "dancing" riffs and melodies, "Amor Vincit Omnia" can be shocking. A lot of metalheads will hate this kind of music but the progheads who are a bit open minded will listen to something revitalizing and original. "Amor Vincit Omnia" is one of those albums that must listen to before that you buy it, but if you're not afraid of 80's influences and believe that Rock and Metal can be mixed with all the other musical genres, it will be perfect for you because in the genre, all the tracks of "Amor Vincit Omnia" are potential hits.

Produced by Paul Northfield (famous for his work with Rush or Ozzy among many others), the sound of "Amor Vincit Omnia" is just perfect. This is good really because the electronic side of the release had to be clean and modern (I'm talking about recording) and this is perfect here. The weird cover is also really cool and the performance of the musicians, male like female vocalists included, are just perfect. Even if the band is young on a side, I really had the feeling to be in front of a really professional and experimented combo.

"Amor Vincit Omnia" will probably create some polemics and maybe that some fans will be disappointed. However I like the fact that the band is not afraid to take risks and doesn't live in some kind of musical routine? Sure "Amor Vincit Omnia" is a really original album, a bit Pop, New Wave and electro, but if you're open minded I'm sure that you'll like it. Just have a look at this release, I'm quite sure that some people will discover "something". Pure Reason Revolution is a real atypical band and on a side that's the reason why we love them!

Their first album is one of my favorite prog releases of all time. Even though that, I'm really glad they were brave enough to change their style, and I hope they keep doing that.

Also, they are very good in live, so don't miss the chance if you can

I'm glad to find a good review for this album, which is not the typical album that metalheads will like, as Jeff said

This is something I've been expecting for quite a while. I still am, to be honest - haven't yet received the package. I definitely have high hopes for it, although your review makes me a bit cautious. The first album is one of the favourite releases for me.

I really want to check it out as well!
About the album title - it's aaaalmost too gay for a metal band (or atleast a band with metal influences)

I love the new album to be honest, this might sound surprising to some. I gave it the same rating as their first album, extra points for making me like something I don't usually like.

As for my favourite songs, "deus ex machina", "victorious cupid" and "apogee".

I'm usually open to new sounds and approaches, that's probably why I accepted this album. Some people will dislike it but in the end, it's a bunch of great songs, whether you prefer pop or prog. This album has the things I liked about them the first time, the interesting melodies and layers in the songs and ever so beautiful vocal arrangements.

Don't miss out.
