Nashville's Inferi make their Tribunal Records debut after first impressing the label with their independently released album, "Divinity In War". Their newest creation, "The End Of An Era", is even more remarkable in its use of enough melody to make it memorable, but still maintain high torque and brutal intensity. Even though tempos are excessively fast at times Inferi refuse to allow speed and technicality to overcome extreme precision. Not since the likes of Metallica's "The Call Of Ktulu" has a band attempted an 8+ minute instrumental track but more importantly deliver an anthem worthy of the metal ages.
Inferi are pioneers in this new age of metal, not reveling in what is popular and trendy, but more importantly reviving classic inspiration of the genre. "The End Of An Era" was mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren (Animosity, As Blood Runs Black and The Taste Of Blood) but even with such a talented engineer behind the desk Inferi decidedly strayed away from the all too common and now, sadly enough, overly produced modern metal sound for something more vintage, raw and in the end, truly metal. "The End Of An Era" is a daring and colossal step in the right direction to bring metal back to its long lost and too hastily forgotten roots. "The End Of An Era" is available right now in the Tribunal Records e-store and it will find it's way onto store shelves June 23rd.

I agree on the part of metal being often overly produced nowadays. So many albums sound too synthesized, utterly sterile and emotionless. Black Metal is the only genre that avoids this most of the time, due to its rather raw production. It's a personal opinion, of course, but I prefer by far something that sounds a bit 'cheap', with minimalist production than overproduced, overpolished albums. When metal sounds 'too good', I tend to find it boring. And drums are way too high in the mix on many albums these days, they drown everything and make it hard to follow guitar riffs.

Listened to one track from these guys a while back, don't remember which one, but it was surprisingly good. Will have to pick it up next order I do with Tribunal.
