Megadeth - Bassist David Ellefson Returns To Line-Up

Megadeth founder and frontman Dave Mustaine has announced the return of original bassist David Ellefson (1983-2002) to the iconic multi-platinum group. This reunion is appropriately timed to Megadeth's upcoming historic month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour which launches March 1 in Spokane, WA. At these incredibly special shows, Megadeth will play their landmark, genre-defining 1990 album Rust In Peace in its entirety, in addition to other Megadeth favorites.

"This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness," Mustaine says. "David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next we are going to show you the power of getting your asses kicked...HARD!"

David Ellefson concurs: "This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike. It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career."

Ellefson will join Mustaine and Megadeth band members Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar) on tour in support of the group's current CD Endgame, which has received some of the highest critical accolades of the band's career.

"We'd like to thank James LoMenzo for several years of loyal service on the bass, and wish him the very best," Mustaine adds.

And yet they haven't finished scraping off all the shit they threw at each other a few years ago. A drama in the making?

MAN mustaine is a dick for promptly removing Lo Menzo from bass, but its damn good to have Ellefson back. it makes megadeth less egomaniacal.....sorta....

Yeah I'm skeptical about this too. Ellefson's other stuff outside of Megadeth is CRAP, while the newest Megadeth album with Lomezo is their best since Rust in Peace. I hope they don't slow down :/

I wonder what the circumstances were, whether LoMenzo left or was 'forcibly removed' (in the spirit of brotherly love and forgiveness, of course)...either way here's hoping they can make some more decent music before they eventually call it quits. And I don't think this reduces the egomaniac factor, that's just how Mustaine rolls.

These days Mustaine just can't seem to make up his mind. Hes no longer the confident and arrogant Mustaine we all knew and loved.

Fucking shit, that's great news! Ellefson is a great bass player.
I'm not sure what happened to LoMenso, Mustaine is really an asshole and I don't think it ever gonna change. He's lucky for making good music, because without that he would've been Lars Ulrich...

hahahahahaa seriously, it's better to have a substance abuse with an actual substance than to just be addicted to being a dick! hahaha. While I'm glad to see Ellefson is back, I have to say that it seems more like a publicity stunt for Mustaine. "Ooooh look how forgiving and brotherly I am, I'm so much more righteous than you Metallica!!!" ahhahaha.

Sorry to correct you on this, but Cliff Burton was Metallica's second bassist. The first one was Ron McGovney.

I certainly did not expect Dave Ellefson to rejoin Megadeth. I find this to be great news, in spite of the uncertain circumstances as to why the previous bassist left.

i think at some point in the last quarter century, every american male between the age of 18 and 43 has, at one point, been a member of either Anthrax or Megadeth.

Well me, personally, I was gunning for Megadeth but I got stuck in Anthrax.

I'm happy ellefson is back though. Yeah Lo Menzo was a good bass payer but it's almost like when Priest took back rob or when Maiden took back bruce, except Ellefson isn't quite so prominent a figure. But he was there for their best years and was the other founding member. tbh I'm really, really excited.
