I didn't really know here to put this, so i put it here. Simple question, what do you believe to be the most chilling or atmospheric band in metal? I'm listening to Shape of Despair atm, and it is chilling and atmospherically dark and beautiful.

Blatherskite are pretty atmospheric, especially in the longer songs. http://www.myspace.com/blatherskite

For me, it would have to be Njiqahdda. There's no other band like them.

Opeth, Nightwish, Burzum and Tiamat for me. I can't choose between them. They all have something out of the ordinary which makes you feel their music in a special way.

Hmm, that's a tough question but I'll go with the ones (albums most noteably) I know and like. Nachtmystium's Assassins qualifies. Dark brooding atmosphere with psychadelic elements. The Conductor's Departure by Anata and When Landscapes Bled Backwards from Sickening Horror are also albums I consider to be quite atmospheric. Listen to songs like Cold Heart Forged in Hell and I Would Dream of Blood (Anata) as well as An Eerie Aspect of Us... Drowning and Filming Our Graves (Sickening Horror) and you'll get the concept. There are so many though... I could go on forever. Shining's V:Halmstad and Enslaved's Vertebrae also do it for me.

Come on, creating music takes time. 4 full lengths in 2008, 4 full lengths in 2009, 3 in 2010 plus 18 EP's in 2 years... Assembly line production

Basically, any album by any band can be mentioned here. "Atmospheric" means different things for different people: Opeth, Nachtmystium, Agalloch, Riverside, Cult of Luna - 5 bands, 5 genres. And it's just a sample of what is mentioned in this thread.

Account deleted Written by Daniell on 26.08.2010 at 13:13 That's what they would want you to believe. They want to keep the undesirables out, so they exploit the stereotype of "many releases over a short period of time = shitty band". But believe me, it's all an illusion.

Yeah, same deal with Raggradarh. Five years since formation, yet so many releases, all of which are at least passable, others decent to great.

05.01.2012 - 01:45 Written by VaronoZz on 02.04.2010 at 20:15 I remember listening to their Reality Dream songs in a loop in 3AM, falling asleep sometime during the first song and waking up when that alarm sounds at the end of (I think) second part. Awesomeness. So yeah, they're quite atmosphere makers and I'll go with them.
