It has been a while since the last time a Lucassen tune was stuck in my head properly. It really has been a long time. No, it was not Guilt Machine album, and not the last Ayreon album, and not even the first Stream Of Passion, although that one had some really good moments. Last time it really clicked for me was Ayreon's The Human Equation. This time it seems to be different, whether for good or bad time will tell but the first two weeks have been filled with all positive emotions.

Progressive Space metal
Nov 25, 2010
Arjen is back with his band of merry men for the follow-up to 2002's Space Metal. Following that album wasn't an easy task, but now eight years on and we have yet another fantastic album with all the Arjen and Star One hallmarks.

Talked to Ed Warby last Friday and he psyched as hell about his drumming on this album.
Not for me though.

Pretty good indeed, but the debut seems better for me (so far). though saying that, I only gave it one spin, so time will tell

Because the cover art so is so damn epic and expansive I think I'll try this out.

Actually it reminds me of one of the pre-rendered backdrops right before the final boss on Legend of Dragoon.

okay, I take back what I said earlier. I've just finished my second spin and I already know that this is a lot more consistent than Space Metal

Mediocre and cheezzzy! But that doesn't surprise me because I don't like Ayreon either except some 5 really good songs. On the other hand Guilt Machine was a pleasant surprise for me....

I agree; I enjoyed Guilt Machine a lot. This one did not impress me at all; I didn't like the female vocalist at all, it sounded like she was trying too hard and Damian Wilson almost ruined it for me. Some guitar and keyboards parts were ok but don't save the album...

The best album of 2010 for me. May even be better than Space Metal which I didn't think was possible.

Just a bland boring album. I guess I really don;t care much for Arjen's more slower and steady guitar work. "Human See, Human Do" was the only song i really liked on this album, even if I felt it dragged on a bit beyond its staying power.

Why didn't Swano use his deep voice more on this?

I really really like the first song. I don't even know why because it's a total cheesefest. After that song it gets really boring. Never listened to the full album because I just don't ever get to the end
