Thin Lizzy - Considering New Studio Album

Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham told Billboard.com that it may be time to bring his band back into the studio again.

Thin Lizzy hasn't released a new album since 1983's Thunder and Lightning and certainly have not thought about it since iconic frontman Phil Lynott's death in 1986. But according to the Billboard interview, guitarist Gorham - who was with the group from 1974-83 and has led various configurations of reconstituted Thin Lizzys since 1996 - thinks that the current line-up may just be good enough to try to add some music to the Lizzy legacy.

Said Gorham: "That's the No. 1 question we're getting from people ? are we gonna record some new material? The fans seem to trust this line-up, and I don't blame them. We've kind of jumped this emotional hurdle together. Ricky's [Warwick, vocals] writing some fucking killer lyrics, and with the kind of talent that's in Thin Lizzy now I think we can pull off a really cool set of tunes. At least it's something that we can think about now, where before it wasn't on the table."

They could release an album under another name, if they release it with the name Thin Lizzy it will most certainly be seen as a cashgrab.

They have about as many comps as Iron Maiden. I think it's safe to say these guys (and/or their label) know how to make money.

Thin Lizzy in this format is a good tribute band but recording an album under the guise of Thin Lizzy wihtou Phil Lynnott on vocals is pure blasphemy. Lynnott was botht the main song writer and especially the sound of the band.

Are they considering it only because it means they're not sure yet.

this idea makes me think of Queen going on without Freddie; and their 2008 album with Paul Rodgers was terribly weak.

That was my thought. It would almost be as bad as a Motorhead album without Lemmy.
