Since there are so many "best of 2012" lists out there, I was wondering how much money you guys (and girls) usually spend on buying CDs ... to be honest .. I don't even know half of the bands in some lists and I buy at least an album a week.

I think there is already a thread on this somewhere. But I can't seem to find it. By "on CDs" I am guessing you also mean vinyl, cassettes, gigs? Well, in that case on average about 500 euros a month

Too much... in 2011 I spent about £4000 ish? on CDs... Why the hell did I buy like 8 Iron Maiden albums when I don't even like them? I'm selling a lot of CDs now, and I've made it a rule to never blind buy again, and to only buy albums I actually enjoy.

I spend 0$ on CDs, 0$ on Merch and 0$ on anything metal-related. Nothing of that sort is available here.

Too little. I buy a few albums a month these days. Well, it's more like I go shopping once every two months or so, and pick up a bunch. I average about 300? a year. Maybe another 300? on concerts and festivals (I have no documentation on that). Additionally, my Spotify subscription is 60? a year. I have basically no income apart from students' social support, else I'd get myself a vinyl player too and buy some ten records a month. As for the "best of 2012" lists, you have to understand that most listening happens through streaming players like Spotify and Grooveshark, sites like Bandcamp, YouTube, good old-fashioned downloading, etc. My 2012 list has 155 albums atm (I think), and I've only bought a few so far. Probably gonna pick up the best by the end of the year at least, but even if I own a CD I'll still mostly play a digital version on the computer. Physical copies are nice to have but too much trouble to use.

I've been doing pretty good at finding good places to buy cheap CDs. First a small store in my area, now CMdistro. Most I've spend lately is around $13.

Don't keep track of it, but should be around 1500 euros a year. And probably the same amount for other metal-related stuff like merch, gigs,...

I usually buy roughly 3 albums a month of albums I know I like, either catching up on my classic favorites or something I really like during the week. I also make an effort to buy newer albums if I can. This is of course all pending on whether or not I'm saving up for something.

I used spends loads of money on CDs and merch (mostly merch) but this year I've been aiming for 2 or 3 CDs a month and maybe a single piece of merch every 2 months.

I mostlyl buy shirts rather than a cd when I'm at a gig. I'd rather fashion up myself with metal : D Think I have about 15 shirts and counting. Can't wait to get my hands on a Windir shirt at some shady trader at Graspop and a small sized Ensiferum shirt will make me a happy clam. I also spend ticket money on concerts every month unless there is nothing interesting. I also do buy cd's. I have a tiny collection of about 30 metal cd's which is not that much but I do buy cd's once a month when I have money (which can be hard when you're jobless atm).

Everytime I buy some merch, I see others that I HAVE TO BUY. And then drains a hole in my pocket >.< Hopefully will get enough for a Leviathan and Bathory Long sleeve before they're sold out, pretty cheap the are aswell.

@Marcel .. I was looking for a similar thread, but couldn't find one either, that's why I started this one @Iromn Angel .. ok thanks .. I myself listen to some bands on youtube once in a while and thats it as far as internet is concerned .. when I hear something that I like I buy it on CD, and I am far from having so much time as to spend on listening to soooo many records so I personally would never dare to create a "best of" list, just for the sake of not having enough insight into the matter

10.06.2012 - 14:06 Written by X-Ray Rod on 10.06.2012 at 13:47 Only the big selling bands. Almost all the other bands a gig costs money. I don't know where this weird idea comes from that small bands make money on gigs. Hell for the Esoteric, Ahab, Ophis tour Ophis had to pay Season Of Mist (Esoteric's label) close to 5,000 to buy themselves in, plus they didn't get any door revenue at all. So they just hoped to sell cd's and shirts to try and make any money on that tour.
