The first and only Black Metal Full Length Album made by Moonspell, A great album with the most incredible atmosphere I've heard in metal scene. The album is incredible well structured, the double bass are in the right place, the distorted and acoustic guitars came in the exact moment, The cleanest Bass-lines are shown in the most depressive moments of the album, and the vocals, man the vocals are beautiful, filled with anger (the guttural voice show only anger and pain, the vocals are not low and throaty for no reason) this album is a true masterpiece.

A metal band from Portugal isn't something you see every day...and of course Moonspell is already a band with a reputation, a band that commands respect! You cannot mention gothic or doom metal without naming Moonspell, that's for sure!
For the following review we have to go back in time...

The Wolfheart is my one and only Moonspell album I have in my collection for the moment and to come straight at the point, it is a tremendous one! This Portuguese gothic/doom metal band or as we used to call it 'dark metal' has a great ability of combining external instruments with 'metal? and other rhythmical music styles.

Amazing album, as well as it being the best Moonspell album. However, if all songs would be as great as Wolfshade, Love Crimes, Vampiria and An Erotic Alchemy, this would be a 10/10 easily. I'm giving it a 9/10 because I don't like the other 5 songs nearly as much as the ones I just mentioned, though they're still good.

I'm suprised that you're surprised. This album is a total classic in the genre (black/gothic metal). It's definitely the best thing this band ever did.

May I ask anyone who has several versions of the three vinyl pressings if are there sound differences between the three releases, change of mixing, or dynamics perhaps?
It's unfortunate this got pointless remixing treatment at the expense of distorting the balance of the property to flow smoothly. I'm comparing the two mixes available on Spotify although I'll just have to accept it, inevitably...

Discovering this almost a decade ago, relistened earlier this year curiously but still indecisive (discovering about the remixed one with chagrin) only to then listen to the original after a recent hard day up thinking about where I am in life and now it truly hits the heart. Let's say that goth at it's great can make a heartbeat of tears. Gothic black is a gem that never really saturated and is a staple cog for the creation of experimental bm that followed in the late '90s. Beautiful and even more unique after several unfolds. Seeing Moonspell exclusively reuse this logo as a reign of style onto the Lisboa live concert art was a nice touch.

So relistening to the 'latest' version after, it holds up more acceptable despite feeling forced on options but what can I do? Going to my wantlist. Even learned my name means Wolf in Turkish .

Phuket got the lilac edition. So much for having another gold disc... This album is 40 minutes of emotional beauty knotted into perfection. The jewel within the crown of a rarely tainted, watered-down niche subgenre that is Gothic Black metal..

Revisiting Moonspell's discography these days in anticipation of the new album. This album is truly beautiful. I have been a big fan of Ricardo over the years, yet he wasn't a part of Moonspell when this album came out but the guitars are still great to listen to. The album is the height of creativity.

I've been learning Alma Mater and Wolfshade these days on guitar and I thoroughly enjoy the experience.

Unbelievably magical atmosphere! I'm entranced - I've never heard music like this before (I find the melodies sound like a mix of Dan Swanö's Moontower and Necromantia's Crossing the Fiery Path!)

The melodies are so mesmerizing, the various vocals are engaging, the riffs are powerful, the basslines are fantastic- masterpiece!

My favorite songs here are: Vampiria, An Erotic Alchemy, Of Dream and Drama, Wolfshade, and Love Crimes

Is it just me or does the riff in Wolfshade sound like a melodic version of the main riff in Bolt Thrower's "The IVth Crusade" title track?
