9th Annual Metal Storm Awards Open For Voting

ZomgzomgZOMGwtfbbq!?!?11!

It's February 1st, which means it's the moment you've all been waiting for? The 9th Annual Metal Storm Awards are upon us. We've done a lot of work in setting this whole thing up and now it's your turn to bust your voting nut 30 seconds in to the month then spend the next 28 days whining because we didn't include your favorite album or put it under the wrong genre.

Seriously though, take your time and check out our nominees. We've got LOTS of first timers that made the cut and are worth taking a listen to before casting your vote. And for any questions regarding what category a band belongs in please ask HERE.

Enjoy.

Isn't My Dying Bride a Doom band? I don;t listen to them so I wouldn't know but I always see them called a Doom band.

I don't listen to Doom (save for Katatonia, who to me sounds more like Gothic metal than Doom) so I won't be voting in the Doom cat.

Aside from that when it comes to write-ins you can put the album wherever you think it belongs best. The only time we frown on write-ins being in the wrong cat is when the user is obviously trolling by doing something like writing Katatonia in the Black or Death cats in which Katatonia is very obviously not a Death or Black metal band. Otherwise for those (like My Dying Bride) bands where their music could easily fit into a few diff cats depending on how you feel they sound then vote for them where you think they go.

MDB trhis case defenetly not death it can be gothic, but I would still say its doom, not extreme doom, but write in band as far I know if its out og genre staff delite it?
I havent look at avards so far, no time, Im tired and Im listening ETOS now anmd trying to go to sleep, I werry tired, so
I have no clue how avards looks. But so far my fav doom band is from Finland, close to swedish border, extremly close well Happaranda/Torneo ... Haparanda in Sweden close border town has other name
I think this is enought to guess what is my fav doom album and album generaly

Unless you listen to the first 2 albums... Yeah, it's mostly gothic metal with a slight (very slight) doomy thing at some points.

Oh yea their first 2 albums are obviously doom/death or death/doom, whatever the real fanatics like to call it. But once they dropped the extreme elements out of the music they just sound like Gothic metal to me. But I'm not the biggest fan of Doom so my knowledge of what all makes up Doom is very limited.

Still, no use to put MDB into extreme, since the only extreme quality on the last album was the recycling of their own disco.

Oh snap

How did Periphery's Periphery II not make a nomination in Djent/Math metal? It was a seriously good album!

For the same reason anything does not make the top 10 of any cat, we in Staff did not agree with your opinion.

Well fair enough. I noticed last year as well, the djent community tends to disagree hugely with the MS community on the matter of djent. There are other great releases in the category, though. I love The Royal Thousand.

Yep, sadly they won't get more attention! Anyway, until I check the unknowns I'd go for DSO. My complain is that Ihsahn didn't make it again But that's ok.
I'm already loving the first unknown album I'm checking from the nominees, this is going to be good.

annddd my favorite category got relegated to "Write-in Only". Lame. I really enjoyed watching all the videos for Music Video of the Year. Now i'll just pick a random song that I happen to know has a video for it cause there is no way im going through every single video made in 2012...

Chimp Spanner - All Roads Lead Here. Damn groovy and jazz-fusion influenced, I find it similiar to the Step In Fluid album but less "happy". Too bad it's too short.

Truly sorry about that. Unfortunately the two driving forces behind that category weren't able to help much with the awards this year

Anyway, if you enjoy watching great music videos, check out Sólstafir's "Fjara".

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Akphaezya being nominated, but it's been a fantastic year for the category that saw some other really good releases that didn't get nominated too, like Ram-Zet and Incoming Cerebral Overdrive. Do check out the rest if you haven't already
