so basically...which of the scenes listed above are the most original,productive,and generally best,and have most helped metal develop as a music genre?

Of course the san francisco-thrash scene (is that the real name? I always thought that is was 'bay area thrash') It's extremely original. Just look and you'll see that a lot of bands are inspired by bands like Metallica. Besides this scene I must say that the rest is also original.

In my opinion there're no better bands than Children Of Bodom, Norther and Wintersun..And in the same genre you can find other finnish bands like Imperanon..These bands are just great and one of the things that makes me proud to be finnish!

i think too that the bay area thrash scene is the most productive, original etc. in metal history. we have anthrax, who added a bit of fun to the music, and slayer who set the standard for all modern death metal.
then we have some good bands like metallica and megadeth....
they were the bands that ushered metal into the mainstream!

Okay one more time, and hopefully last time... cob,norther,wintersun are not and never have been melodeath. Please call them extreme power metal or something along those lines but NOT, I repeat NOT melodeath, for they have nothing in common with any death metal whatsoever, not even their roots have any death metal in them.

I'm going with other, because where the hell is NWOBHM? The most productive metal scene ever, that is almost but forgoten by the new metalheads. Need I remind everybody (well not everybody) that this is what shaped metal? All bands have influences from the NWOBHM bands, or bands that also have ben influneced by this genre (!attention flamewar ahead! Metallica for example).

Firts you didnt explain why all genres are special and not only in Florida was death metal also California and band Autopsy, Obituary, Monstrocity ......... ar ebig part in hiostory of DM, and nalso in Sweden are DM so and dont deny Polish scene too

I have always had trouble deciding between Death and Thrash,I think that the bay area scene,or cali as whole was the finest.You have Possessed,Slayer,Exodus,Megadeth,Testament,Dark Angel,Death Angel,Defiance,Mordred,Forbidden,Heathen,Viking,Vio-Lence,Hirax,Laaz Rockit and Evil Dead,cant get much better than that.The scene was always strong,lots of the best emerged at the beginning and the at the end.Death metal was more around the time I was born,while florida was the most popular,my personal favorite would be the New York scene,even though only a select few-Deicide,Immolation,Cannibal Corpse and Malevolent Creation.They all went down to Florida,but most of the guys were born in Buffalo.

I chose floride, you got bands like Death, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and Morbid Angel (though some moved to florida later on) that set the standards for Death Metal, I'd also choose along with earlier DM bands that arent involved in Florida ( maybe autopsy since they moved from cali ) that have made a mark in the metal, like entombed, nihilist, dismember, possessed, unleashed, then to what branched off and influenced other bands to what is now known as gotheburg like in flames, arch enemy, and at the gates which are in turn influenced by probabley all of the differrent scenes.

Well I would have to say old school England or NWOBHM were the most influential. I agree very much so with VenoM_BM. Almost every metal band has been influenced by Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath at some stage. Slayer's early albums have a very big NWOBHM influence. You can really hear the influence if you listen to the albums. And I suppose Slayer being one of the predominate bay area thrash bands, that in a way shows that NWOBHM is a very big influence. The thing with Finnish power metal, melodic death and gothenburg metal is that they are all fairly new genres so they haven't really even been able to make a change and an influence in metal yet.

Werry good explanation and you're wright almoust all ha sinfluenced from those but still a lot of band sjust try play like Venom too and Mercifull Fate IMO in this case its not scene but style heavy metal/nwobhm its firts who influenced bands

German speed IMO are beggining of speed leitehr thrash, German speed was fatser hwo American sppd/thrash and I like it more Blind Guardian,, Risk, X-Wild and old good bands but in this connection German trdaditional heavy metal are unique too

This is a fucking hard one! 2 years ago I would have voted for Norweigan BM scene without even think. But I think I´m going to vote for the Bay Area stuff because there are so many bands in that scene I like for ex. Slayer, Megadeth and Testament. The other alternative is the traditional english scene(or should I say Birmingham scene?) which I think is the most important scene. I have to think...

Hahha I agree that genre are great southern metal, sluge, sluge doom, stoner its from that area and Acid bathe are one of my fav bands but still that genre are in all word but USA bands are better

Norwegian black metal hails from an entire country, so does brittish heavy metal and finnish melodeath and power. The only scene comparable is San Fransisco thrash scene.

Well, many bands that people call Gothenburg Death are from other cities in southern Sweden, for ex. Soilwork(Helsingborg) and Arch Enemy(Halmstad).

San Francisco thrash, just because of one single band: Metallica. They are not just one (or maybe the) founder of Thrash metal but they have also influented so many musicians, so many started listening to metal because of Metallica and they are the best selling metal band ever.

Anthrax actually hails from New York. Not the bay area.

Top 3 scene
1. American power metal NOT JUST THE USA, but mainly South America
2. NWOBHM
3. and the 3rd one is not acctually a Metal Scene but it should count as one! Denamark's King! For what he means in metal, and for the dyvercity of styles that he covers I think King should have his own scene =P
