Looking back on over thirty years of black metal history, probably the most important mindset that runs at the core of the genre is the extreme challenge and opposition to conventional norms, and the celebration of things than run counter to them. In the realm of religion, this usually takes the form of anti-Christianity, which peaked in the early 90s with the Norwegian scene and their lovely church-burning escapades. As black metal progresses, though, one has to ask oneself: why Christianity? The faith may have the distinction of being the most oppressive religion throughout history, but surely it isn't the only one, no? Where are the black metal bands decrying Judaism, or Islam, or even extreme Hinduism? Well, ponder no more, ladies and gents, because this year Iraq's Seeds Of Iblis have given us an answer to that question.

These gals and guys are creating quite the buzz with their rather original take on anti-religious black metal. And for this reason they have to hide their identities from their own government in order to avoid being legally decapitated.

My first impression: The band met the enormous amount of hype. They manage to find some level of originality, and engage listeners with their potent industrial-tinged black metal. It doesn't feel gimmicky, which is nice; on the other side, it ends up being a fun listen, with many tantalizing moments (end of Islamophobia, for instance). I have a feeling that this fun feeling might hinder some of the listeners attempting to understand the nuances of their anti-Islamic sentiment, but I find this album very palatable and interesting.

First of all I was really shocked to find out that there are some bands who are performing ANTI-ISLAMIC black metal. Something out of space.. I wouldn't say that this band has contributed something new to the style, except lyrical concepts, of course. But nevertheless the style of music preforming is quite original with the classical raw black-metal sound, with the perfect black metal vocal.. And surely, I was impressed by the melodic interludes during almost songs.
By the way.. The lyrics are really funny!)

Pity this was a hoax. Still, kudos for having the balls to make an album with such a concept.
