I would like to know everyone's favorite songs over 10 minutes in length. Maybe someone will even post a song that I have never heard, so I can check it out. My favorites are Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var (Not my favorite song from Varg, but the atmosphere it creates is unparalleled. One of the riffs is awesome too.) Symphony X - The Odyssey (Words can't really describe how good this song is. Amazing. The solos, keys, and drums area all great through the 24 minutes) Opeth - The Moor (The intro alone is worth all the praise this song gets from us Opeth fans. Everything about the song is perfect, Mikael's vocals, the acoustic guitars, the heavy guitars, also I heard there is a sigh in the song, and nobody know how it came to be there. None of the band members sighed while recording, so I wonder what it was...) Nile - Unas Slayer of the Gods (The horns in the middle of the songs are what really make this song a favorite of mine. The solo helps a little too) Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno (My favorite Iced Earth song. It has some of the best lyrics and riffs ever. "Abandon all hope who enter here") Iron Maiden- Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Maiden must be mentioned in this list for me. THis is my favorite 10+ minute song by them because of the mellow part of the songs and the feeling that this song evokes] I could go on and on, but I won't. The reason I didn't choose a Dream Theater song is because I can't choose one, same goes for Porcupine Tree. Also there are way more good Opeth songs than this, but I won't post them all. Thanks for posting!

my "list": -ghost love score-nightwish...i swear this song almost made me cry once...it's got one of the best choruses ever and it evades the plague that some epic songs suffer from: cheesiness. good guitar solo and wonderful atmosphere, although it's one of the most depressing songs i ever heard. -dante's inferno-iced earth(NP). now this is fucking vicious, and as though the song wasn't heavy enough, on alive in athens, matt barlow fucking nails it in the coffin with the extremely powerful, almost growled "queen of vipers, queen of serpents" part(as opposed to mystical on the album version). -and one rode to asa bay by bathory. great atmosphere and although it's quite repetitive(there are only 5-6 riffs in 10:24 mins) it's a very good number of midpaced viking metal.

"The glass prison" - Dream Theater: is an excellent one, very good instrumentation (especially the bass). "Into the black hole" - Ayreon: Bruce Dickinson did an amazing work. "Isis and Osiris" - also Ayreon: I especially loved the voices of Sharon and Anneke. "Flamme im wind" - Lacrimosa: good orchestration and vocals. "The divine wings of tragedy" - Symphony X: everything matches perfectly, music/vocals/lyrics. I thought that "The flame of wrath" byt The sins of thy Beloved was also a 10+min song but it isn't.

"Highlander (The One)" - Lost Horizon (what is there to say? the voice is flawless! the falsettos agghh! it makes me orgasm every time!) "Halloween" - Helloween (this classic song needs no introduction as I trust every MSer has heard this, but FUCK isn't it a fun song?! Michael Kiske's voice is sweet too!) "The Mystic Prophecy Of The Demon Knight" - Rhapsody Of Fire (soooo epic! it's like the cinemas but no visual aspect and the narrations are breath-taking! awesome way to end The Dark Secret Saga!) "The Mighty Ride Of The Firelord" - Rhapsody (it's epic.....annnd veangeful, what's not to love? lol) "Sacred Power Of Raging Winds" - Rhapsody (dude.....the narrations!!) "Gargoyles, Angels Of Darkness" - Rhapsody (the percussion and acoustic guitars!!! ) "Elements" - Stratovarius (that's the kind of shit that keeps me up at nights! the lyrical content i mean) "The Seven Angels" - Avantasia (BEAUTIFUL! ) "One Road To Asa Bay" - Bathory (Epic atmosphere, reminiscent of the Viking age as intended) "Shores In Flames" - Bathory (one of his best songs! to hear it is a must ) "Pimeä" - Moonsorrow (the screams are haunting in a beautiful way, the chanting is sweet, the acoustic guitars own as always) "Karhunkynsi" - Moonsorrow (soo many epic folk passages! though i would have preferred the guitars more technical but oh well.)

12.01.2007 - 19:59 Written by Doc G. on 11.01.2007 at 06:35 I was thinking about that very song coming into this thread, its Venom's epic masterpiece for sure.Latley I have been giving Dream Theater's "Home" alot of play,a very catchy composition.I have one last one though it might not be metal,it definitley deserves a mention,Pink Floyd's "Animals".I hadn't listen to that album for at least 4 months, the song is my personal favorite from them, yeah out of all their tracks, the mood is nice and peaceful, with superb soloing, prominent bass lines and deep meanings within the lyrics, another unique piece of music put together by the masters.

Here we go... Iron Maiden - Sign of the Cross Rather than Rime of the Ancient Mariner, I prefer this vastly-underappreciated and wonderful track. It opens up The X Factor perfectly, and is easily one of the best tracks for Blaze to sing. Bruce just doesn't have the strength of voice at low pitches to match Blaze on songs like this. The whole thing starts off with a haunting Gregorian choir, and progresses with some amazing verses and instrumental parts. It's a breath of fresh air after some of the blandness of No Prayer... and Fear of the Dark. Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno Having read the Inferno, I can say that this track does it justice. The intensity of the riffs and the bleakness and anger of Barlow's vocals set the mood perfectly. It tends to meander quite a bit near the end (it could be 12 minutes without losing anything), but another brilliant, strong, epic number. Therion - The Way One of the best songs Therion have ever recorded, and one of the best Death Metal songs I've heard. The vast array of the riffs appeals to the senses, and the long instrumental sections and ethereal melodies take me somewhere else. I particularly like the part from 4:00 onwards. Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky - A Night on the Bare Mountain Not metal, but one of the finest symphonic poems of all time. This could easily be translated to a metal song, and it's just damn scary, whilst being majestic. Kudos to Disney for scaring the crap out of little kids the world over in Fantasia

I would have chosen The Clansman by Maiden, but it doesn't quite make it to 10 minutes and I don't like Sign of The Cross too much, so I went with Rime of The Ancient Mariner.

14.01.2007 - 11:15 Written by heresiarch on 10.01.2007 at 21:47 I absolutely agree with "Child in Time", it's probably one of the greatest songs ever written, then i'd say "In the shadow of our Pale Companion" (obviously by Agalloch) and "And then there was Silence" by Blind Guardian, of course there are a lot of Opeth songs, Rush, Pink Floyd and much more, but now i'd say those three
