Important ones on here for sure. I don't necessarily agree with all of your picks (Soundgarden NEEDS to be on here for sure), but I have a very particular idea of what I like in alt metal so I'm not the best guy to talk to. I also think the absence of Karnivool is fairly significant- one of THE prominent alternative metal bands of the 2000s, and arguably the best contemporary alternative metal band around right now.

Some cool stuff on that list! Also some I'd never heard (Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle).

I prefer SOAD's first album to Toxicity - there was a slightly raw intensity that they lost on Toxicity.

It's funny but there's some other stuff I'd include there that is no longer regarded as alternative metal even though it often was in the press ala White Zombie, Soundgarden etc.

Let's face it that whole period of metal-rock that was 1990-1995 has some phenomenal shit come out.

You really haven't heard of Breaking Benjamin? They are one of the most popular modern rock bands, and one of the best of the crowd that get's significant radio play. Maybe they aren't as popular in Australia as the US (and maybe Brazil). Chevelle is a bit more understandable, I think they are a bit more obscure. They remind me of Tool with a pop rather than prog basis.

I do like SOAD's debut, haven't heard the whole thing though, but Toxicity is really the band's classic album, so that's why it's chosen here.

I don't think they are no longer regarded as alternative metal, just they are primarily regarded as other genres. Anyway, while this isn't a list of favorite albums, I didn't include Soundgarden because I prefer Alice in Chains.

You know, people complain about grunge killing metal in the 80's, but I say it just opened up the way for much better metal after 80's metal had recycled itself to death. Lots of great there. Even some of the nu metal in the late 90's is pretty good.

I associate Karnivool more with progressive rock than alternative metal, there is a reason I picked Undertow over the later Tool albums, but I agree they are a very good and very important alternative metal band.
