In your opinion, who is the biggest metal band of all time? My pick would be Iron Maiden.

I say Iron Maiden they have 6 men in the line up, M-head ha sonly 3 , rest 4 and 5 so

Slipknot has 9 from memory!

Folkodia and Folkheart had 20 in the days, Hagaard and Therion has more then 9 if I remember

It's definately Metallica (unless you consider Led Zep metal), but it ought to be Iron Maiden.

Some Black sabbath albums sold poorly. So I think Metallica is the biggest selling metal band.

Haggard is something like 18. Dol Ammad's around 15.

Indeed. They have sold the most albums, therefore they are the "biggest" metal band of all time. A poll is quite useless here. If it had been about who the users of metalstorm consider as the best metal band of all time, it would have been a different story

The Black Album is the highest-selling album of the SoundScan era, regardless of genre, and the 26th best-selling album of all time supposedly. Opinions over the quality of that album and Metallica in general may vary greatly, but no other metal band comes close to that level of success, so if we're saying which is 'biggest', not sure there's really a contest.

As far as I know Soundscan only has figures for the US.

It's obviously gonna be Metallica, the only band who comes anywhere close to second is Maiden.

in old days this would be locked bewcause user didn't explain in main post why he choses these bands, look at vali bala place how he created

Where is the person who will say Nightwish or any mediocre Alternative metal is the best band ?

As someone who thinks that the whole "a band's quality is measured by their sales" mentality is absolutely idiotic, I would prefer to judge "biggest metal band" more on the basis of lasting influence upon the genre than by commercial success. So with that in mind, I'm casting my vote to Sabbath

Whatever band Dino Cazares or Karl Sanders happens to be in at the time.

Yes! Thank you! The original post here is not very specific, as i stated in an earlier post. I agree. Sabbath, no doubt, but there is no definition of the word "biggest". Thread is actually a bit useless. "most influential band" would be a more interesting discussion imo.

I'm going to say Metallica if we're going pure commercial success and name recognition. Technically I should say that almost all of these bands are names that people who don't really listen to metal know of, but at the same time Metallica is a band that just appeals to more people that don't really place as much importance on the genre, and may primarily listen to something like country or regular hard rock. That's just what I think.

Metallica is probably the most influential band out there. Whereas Black Sabbath might've spawned the genre, since at least 1991 most metalheads have been introduced to the genre by Metallica. They have also had a major influence on the mainstream as well especially in terms of destigmatising metal and making it social acceptable.

Most sales = most influence by definition. The more people listen to something, the more they're likely to be influenced by it. And the more people listen to a band, it's more likely they'll introduce someone else to the band.

Yes, stating that Black Sabbath being the most influential band is based on the influence it had on the sound and the genre. But I agree, when it comes to spreading the music to new listeners, Metallica has done a major part,.
