Moonsorrow have established themselves as one of the premier Viking Metal acts along with Bathory, Einherjer , Ensiferum and Thyrfing, a while ago they surprised us with the excellent "Kivenkantaja", and now is time for these young heathens to Re-release their debut album, remastered and rewrapped with excellent cover art of Niklas Sundin, also they've included a bonus track and a 40 minute DVD, now that's what I call a Re-release!

In case you don't know, "Suden Uni" is translated to good 'ol English means "The Sleep Of A Wolf", and these guys aren't just naming their album title in their native tong, every song in the album is singed in Finnish, that may prove to be a downpoint for some people that, like me, don't understand squat of Finnish.

Anyway, Moonsorrow's Viking Metal uses many traditional Folk instruments, like mouth harps and accordions, you'll hear also the traditional "drunken Viking group choir".
The album starts with a wolf howling (how properly) and then "Ukkosenjumalan Poika" starts, not the best song to start the album I must say, the opener song is very important, has to captivate the listener's ear and grab it so he yearns to hear the rest of the songs.
Things get better once we get to track 2 "Köyliönjärven Jäälä (Pakanavedet II)" a more folky song, accompanied with a nice accordion, somewhere I read that this song was inspired and dedicated to one of Finland's national heroes, Lalli.
"Tuulen Koti, Aaltojen Koti" (god, typing this Finnish titles is killing me) is a mid tempo song with a very cool acoustic intro, that sadly don't get more developed through the song.
The best song in the album comes in the fifth track, "Pakanajuhla" is a instant hit, a really catchy song with a great accordion, some polka moments and some more aggressive parts accompanied by well used keyboards, even have some Viking choirs with clapping included! Really fun song if you ask me!

Other good songs are the 11 minute Epic "1065: Aika" and the bonus track "Tulkaapa Äijat!" this last song is very funny, like a Viking sing-along drinking song, I wish I knew Finnish so I could sing along to?

Well, is interesting to hear the origins of a band, definitely Moonsorrow sound more mature these days, but that doesn't take credit from this release, great debut and great bonus with the re-release also. Fans of Viking, Folk, Black, Pagan Metal, can't miss this one, trust me, if you do, you'll be eaten by wolfs while you sleep.

This album deserves more than 8. And "Ukkosenjumalan Poika" is the perfect opener, because it's the best song of the album. So this review isn't that good.

Personally I would give Suden Uni a 9. And I agree about Ukkosenjumalan Poika being a perfect opener, however remember it is the reviewer's opinion... i thought it was a pretty good review.

Another great review. This is not one of their best imo. But as the review says, its interesting to hear the origins of this amazing band.

Completly agree on the best song. "Pakanajuhla" rules
