Therion - Unveil First Song From New Album

If you're curious about Therion's new album, the ambitious rock opera Beloved Antichrist, it's time to listen to a brand new track! The symphonic band now unveils their first single, the chapter "Temple Of New Jerusalem" from the second act of the opera. Watch the lyric video here. What do you think about it?

For 15 years Therion's leader, Christofer Johnsson, was haunted by the desire to compose an opera and turn his vision of the opus Beloved Antichrist into reality. After long lengths of time involving much commitment, dedication and passion, the project - which includes over three hours of playing time and 27 different vocal roles - was completed and will finally be released on February 9th, 2018 through Nuclear Blast Records.

More album details can be found over here.

Decent but average therion. I get the feeling that this will be alot like gothic kaballah in that its hard to fully appreciate one part untill youve taken in the entire work.

In my opinion good song. But remember, this is only a part of 3CD's. Let's hope that this one will get more with full concept listening.

I used to love them up until Gothic Kabbalah, which still had some brilliant classy moments.
But this is just horrible, sorry Chris.

I really like this band, but this song did nothing for me. I still want to hear the album, although 3 discs seems a bit excessive. Not sure they can pull it off, but we'll see.

I feel like it's too vocal focused. The music is just bland in the background making it a little weak.

In other words: sounds just like Therion.

I'll hold off on my opinion after listening to the entire album as a whole. Glad Therion is back! Hope all is well with you, Chris! FYI, this sounds nothing like Kabbalah LOL

Yes that's only 4 mins out of a 3 hour project. There is still no way at this stage to predict how the whole concept will turn out.

No, Therion has always been a themed band - their albums have some kind of atmosphere going on. The vocals help create this, but so did the music - look at In The Desert Of Set from Theli. Even Gothic Kabbalah had a 'sound' that worked where all the music tied together.

This last song has no musical focus, and is filler garbage really. The guitar is the only noticeable sound outside of the vocals and it's boring. It's just too simple and not as adventurous as i'm used to Therion being. It almost feels like solo male opera.

Theli is kind of an exception (as well as Secrets of the Runes), my point being that the metal side of Therion was never very interesting to begin with. Don't get me wrong, I love the band, but they have always been very "vocal focused". I agree about this song though, it kind of sounds like a Sitra Ahra leftover (an album that pretty much consisted of leftovers).

Yes, definitely agree with a vocal focus, but it was what made them so iconic. Their metal side is awesome though man. Sweet riffs on Volvin e.g. Birth of Venus Illegitema, Deggial 'Via Nocturna'. Lemuria and Sirius B were full of amazing metal too - in fact i'd say those are two of their more 'metal' focused albums. Hell even Gothic Kabbalah had amazing heavy songs. I love the first albums too, not the best death metal i've heard, but old school stuff kicks ass! 'Morbid Reality', 'Pandemonic Outbreak', 'Baal Reginon'... etc
