Nice list. It served me well today on my marathon through their entire disco. I had your list open in a second tab throughout.
Thanks, that means a lot! Even if these lists are mainly made for my own amusement, to keep track of what I've listened to, it always heart warming to know that there's someone who will actually get something worthwhile out of it.

I must say though that I am quite underwhelmed by their catalogue. I was not really sure what to expect beforehand. I was aware of some of their early albums only, but not much.
It was quite helpful having your comments on almost each of their albums. And, wow, you are really having some range in your ratings on their albums (from 9 to 5).
I must admit I dont. I dont remember having ever clicked on the 6 rating that often within one band's discography. These 23 albums are all decent, there is absolutely nothing bad about them.
Magnum is one of the most consistant bands ever and it's crazy to know that basically all the songs are written by one single guy. I'm not a big AC/DC or Motorhead fan but I understand why people love them, and Magnum is my version of those bands, it's a safe place, a band that has kept true to their formula for their entire career and continued to release quality release after quality release. But some of those albums are of course closer to heart like Wings of Heaven and The Eleventh Hour while other aren't my immediate choice to listen to when I want some Magnum.

But hell do they sound alike in total! Spin me a song or two from any of their albums (the first 2-3 excluded), I couldnt tell from which album they are, not even vaguely, for sure.
That's the difference. Spin me a song (any song!) and I will immediately know the title and which album it's from

My favourite album is clearly the debut. There they still sounded original, if you ask me.
Fair enough. The first four records are something special and the best songs from those are easily the best stuff they written. All Come Together, Kingdom of Madness, The Prize, One Sacred Hour, The Spirit, The Great Disaster, Great Adventure. Songs like that are peak Magnum. I just think many of the later records are stronger overall experiences.

Btw, what about the genre tag? Prog rock, really? Apart from the first couple of albums I was rather thinking of AOR or hard rock.
I'm with you there. There's hints of prog in their early material but even at that point it's a stretch to call it prog rock.

You may want to repair the linking on your 12th rank. I guess the album is called Magnum II here. Cheers.
Thanks, I will fix it.
