I would like to know everyone's favorite songs over 10 minutes in length. Maybe someone will even post a song that I have never heard, so I can check it out. My favorites are

Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var (Not my favorite song from Varg, but the atmosphere it creates is unparalleled. One of the riffs is awesome too.)

Symphony X - The Odyssey (Words can't really describe how good this song is. Amazing. The solos, keys, and drums area all great through the 24 minutes)

Opeth - The Moor (The intro alone is worth all the praise this song gets from us Opeth fans. Everything about the song is perfect, Mikael's vocals, the acoustic guitars, the heavy guitars, also I heard there is a sigh in the song, and nobody know how it came to be there. None of the band members sighed while recording, so I wonder what it was...)

Nile - Unas Slayer of the Gods (The horns in the middle of the songs are what really make this song a favorite of mine. The solo helps a little too)

Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno (My favorite Iced Earth song. It has some of the best lyrics and riffs ever. "Abandon all hope who enter here")

Iron Maiden- Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Maiden must be mentioned in this list for me. THis is my favorite 10+ minute song by them because of the mellow part of the songs and the feeling that this song evokes]

I could go on and on, but I won't. The reason I didn't choose a Dream Theater song is because I can't choose one, same goes for Porcupine Tree. Also there are way more good Opeth songs than this, but I won't post them all.

Thanks for posting!

YES! That song is so amazing. It puts you in a trance, and when you lose yourself to the music, the landscapes and images evoked in you are something very great. I really enjoy the Aardtmann op Vuurtopberg cover of it too (their stuff can be downloaded for free at last.fm).

For now "Primeval Rush" from Mourning Beloveth : a great song with mind blowing riffs it just makes me feel like I am in the darkest corner of a desolate room smeling nothing but the stench of fear and despair

Also "Ignotum Per Ignotius" from Esoteric : can't even give a comment, the way it progresses is just amazing the vocals and the guitar solos, I haven't heard Funeral doom in such way ever

"Redemption Lost" from Ahab : it gives me the chills, the lead guitar and the clean vocals are perfect

Anything by Opeth, considering 2/3 of their songs boarder on or over 10 minutes i think it might as well be most of the collection. If I had to say one well...

The Moor - Opeth
The Drapery Falls - Opeth
Deliverance - Opeth

Any of these three would suffice.

Theres quite of few 10+ minute songs that I think are insanely epic:

insomnium - in the groves of death

lost horizon - highlander (the one)

mirrorthrone - Une Existence Dont Plus Personne

suspyre - siren

symphony x - the odyssey

tyr - ocean

wintersun - sadness and hate

..but if Id have to choose it would be a toss-up between these 2 songs:

theocracy - the mirror of souls

cor scorpii - Oske og innsikt

lolll I was about to write exactly that! This is definitely Arkona's best track to date, featuring vocalists from many european bands, including Manegarm and Heidevolk, amongst others. Simply amazing.

I'm not absolutely sure if all those bands are on this particular track, but I know these are the bands featured on the album: Skyforger, Obtest, Manegarm, Menhir, Heidevolk and Kalevala. Vintersorg is not on it, from what I know, and that's a shame, cause Vintersorg's vocalist is awesome. By the way, in case you don't know, Na Moey Zemle is a concept song telling of a warrior's journey across northeastern Europe, and, according to Europe's map, a journey from Russia to The Netherlands (Heidevolk's homeland), would have to go in this order:
1- Latvia (Skyforger)
2- Lithuania (Obtest)
Then sail across the Baltic Sea
3- Sweden (Manegarm)
Then you sail again...
4- Germany (Menhir)
5- The Netherlands (Heidevolk)
So, if Arkona respected geographic facts, the bands should appear in this order!

That's absolutely cool, a very good idea for a song. They should have got Marcel to wind it up in Holland Anyway, I don't know a couple of those bands, I'll need to check them out.

I'm aware this is getting off-topic, but Holland is a province of the Netherlands? I thought it was actually a synonyme.

They are wrongfully used as synonyms by loads of people (also the BBC and even Dutch people). North Holland and South Holland are both provinces of The Netherlands. Heidevolk are from Gelderland, the province I grew up in.

It's the most important province because it holds the three largest cities. It is often used as a synonym to the Netherlands, for example football commentators mainly refer to the national team as Holland.
