I would like to know everyone's favorite songs over 10 minutes in length. Maybe someone will even post a song that I have never heard, so I can check it out. My favorites are

Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var (Not my favorite song from Varg, but the atmosphere it creates is unparalleled. One of the riffs is awesome too.)

Symphony X - The Odyssey (Words can't really describe how good this song is. Amazing. The solos, keys, and drums area all great through the 24 minutes)

Opeth - The Moor (The intro alone is worth all the praise this song gets from us Opeth fans. Everything about the song is perfect, Mikael's vocals, the acoustic guitars, the heavy guitars, also I heard there is a sigh in the song, and nobody know how it came to be there. None of the band members sighed while recording, so I wonder what it was...)

Nile - Unas Slayer of the Gods (The horns in the middle of the songs are what really make this song a favorite of mine. The solo helps a little too)

Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno (My favorite Iced Earth song. It has some of the best lyrics and riffs ever. "Abandon all hope who enter here")

Iron Maiden- Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Maiden must be mentioned in this list for me. THis is my favorite 10+ minute song by them because of the mellow part of the songs and the feeling that this song evokes]

I could go on and on, but I won't. The reason I didn't choose a Dream Theater song is because I can't choose one, same goes for Porcupine Tree. Also there are way more good Opeth songs than this, but I won't post them all.

Thanks for posting!

I'm aware this is getting off-topic, but Holland is a province of the Netherlands? I thought it was actually a synonyme.

It's the most important province because it holds the three largest cities. It is often used as a synonym to the Netherlands, for example football commentators mainly refer to the national team as Holland.

One more off-topic and then we should return, but you're only partially right. 'Holland' does not exist. There's 'North Holland' and 'South Holland', but no such thing as 'Holland'. I guess it's catchier for football commentators.

Nile - Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten which is actually a mere 9.50 or something is the best Nile song ever in my opinion.

Other favorite long songs are Heart Of The Sunrise - Yes (actually has a very metal part in it!) and Jerusalem by Sleep which clocks at 50 MINUTES.

My favorite one-track albums are as follows: Monolithe's discography, Edge of Sanity's Crimson, Green Carnation's Light of Day, Day of Darkness...

Process of Guilt's Erosion isn't one song, but each track works together to make it seem so. I can't put into words the way this album is, it's just an hour of perfection. It's a shame these guys aren't too well known (though Marcel seems to advertise them without hesitation thankfully), as this album deserves recognition for its breakthroughs.

"God" by A Forest of Stars is a fantastic song, unfortunately featured on an extremely under-appreciated/underrated album in The Corpse of Rebirth. The tortured vocals, pace-changing guitar melodies, ear-wrenching violins...just a masterful track. The entire album is worth checking out, but this is an opener for the ages. "Female" and "Male" are both strong 10+ minute songs, but "God" is truly special.

Majestic Downfall's "Bleeding Sun" is very catchy, to the point you almost want to scream along. The guitars are the obvious highlights, but the audible vocals are what really pull you in, it lets you connect more with the setting, as if you're the one writing the words to the song. It may be a person thing more so than the other tracks listed above/below, but this one definitely has a personality.

Bilocate's "Blooded Forest" is a great song with plenty of mood swings, transcending aggression and depression to really capture a 17-minute breakdown of the mind. A really agonizing listen if that's your thing.

"The June Frost" by Mournful Congregation is a lot less varied, but it really beats you into feeling despondent. The guitars are so powerful, heavy in a weight-wise way, not just in their sound. You can practically FEEL the riffs as the song concludes.

Faal's "In My Final Hour of Grief" is an outstanding song too. The muddy production really adds to the gloomy atmosphere, and the deep growls just seem like such a burden. Everything about this song weighs you down in spite of the relatively fast pace, until it slows down and REALLY drags you down. It does everything almost hesitantly, like the song doesn't WANT you listening and it fights to pull you in far enough to deliver the final blow (better known as the final-minute fade-out).

The use of the piano in "Blood On Verona" by Dawn of Tears really grabs hold of you throughout the entire song. I was surprised that a melo-death song could last this long and not irritate me.

I could go on and on about bands like Evoken, Doom:VS, Mourning Beloveth, Colosseum, Ikuinen Kaamos, Runemagick, Forgotten Tomb, Ahab...too many good bands with too many good songs.

All the songs on Erosion (except for the closer) flow into each other as if it is one song (at least they do on the original cd. Live they play Corrosion and Lava as if it is one song.
Not too surprising they aren't too well-known for they are on quite a small Portuguese label and up to now have only played outside of Portugal twice (both those performances have been reviewed for MS by me btw )
Erosion is my album of the year without a doubt.

Lurker Of Chalice - This Blood Falls As Mortal, Pt. 3

Such a haunting intro and one of the most perfect samples I've heard... By the time I heard it for the first time I felt so miserable. Her voice was so touching...

Can't remember if I've posted in here, but...

Akercocke - Shelter From the Sand (10:40)

This is my favorite song from Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone. The transitions from brutality to melodic soft, clean singing is better than anything I've heard from Opeth, which is saying a lot. I also love the guitar tone, the piano towards the middle followed with awesome progressive-sounding guitars, and how perfectly it fits within the track list. It's just an overall creepy fucking song.
