For those who know the band Ásmegin, how is this supposed to be pronounced? I haven't made up my mind, I've heard "Az-meegan" but also "Az-megan" and "Ass-mejin," with the G's sounding like in Great, and the J like in Jump. Calling all Scandinavians: how the hell is this supposed to be said?

25.05.2007 - 16:25 Written by Dane Train on 25.05.2007 at 08:51 Most likely the "Bork" part is similar to "fork" so that shouldn't be a problem... "Nagar" cannot be "nay-gar" so it must be "nah-gar". As it's a Scandinavian name I'm pretty sure the first A is a long letter, and both Rs are sharper than the English R.

26.05.2007 - 00:31 Written by Hyvaarin on 25.05.2007 at 07:40 I would pronounce it Sah-tir-rih-con (I think that's how you mean), but, interestingly, 'Satyr' by itself is pronounced 'Say-tear'. But then, satire, which comes from the word satyr, is pronounced differently again, so what do I know?

26.05.2007 - 02:09 Written by RavenLord on 26.05.2007 at 00:31 Interestingly, frontman Satyr and Frost pronounce it 'Sah-tyr' (like the word 'tear' as in crying), the first syllable being very short and quick. They also say 'sah-tyr-ee-con' so that's how I pronounce it.

Since Satyricon is a Latin novel how would one pronounce it in Latin? The answer to that question would give you the answer to your question/

05.06.2007 - 12:38 Written by Ernis on 05.06.2007 at 11:44 Well, seeing as you're Estonian, the band is German (with a Turkish founder), and Necrophagist is an English word, I believe that neither you nor the band are in any position to tell anyone how to pronounce it. But I do agree that Americans often murder pronunciations, and I'm sure you speak perfectly good English when you end sentences with a full stop rather than with ellipses! As for the word itself, I say 'Neck-roff-uh-jist', which is how I've always heard it pronounced. How about Zyklon? In German, I believe it should be 'tsy-klon', yet most people pronounce it just how it's said (in English, at least), with the 'z' sounding like in 'zebra'.

even though I am English, with Zyklon I actually prefer to have an "S" sound then a "Z" sound.. strange indeed.. it isn't like it matters though. they are barely different

I thought it was pronounced 'Zy-klon' like in the song 'PSyklon Aeon'. As for the Necrophagist debate, I've heard Suicmez say 'Nek-ro-fay-jist' (long a sound) live so I say it like that.
