The letters in the list are in order from my collection, im using it as a basis, i have 30 'D' bands and 12 'I' bands. i KNOW this is not accurate and will provide no fact, but it can determine the more popular letters, i understand for some they might not be in the list.

In my collection M comes first followed by S

While this isn't strictly from my music collection here are the index stats from the New Metal Army website I run. S seems to be the most common in my collection, somewhere in the order of 20 'metal' bands starting with S maybe more. E is second with 12, then D with 10, them M with 9.

Only counting stuff I own physically here. S was the predicted winner with Schaliach/Seventh Avenue/Slechtvalk/Sonata Arctica/Stratovarius/Stryper/Switchfoot, but the surprise winner turned out to be M with Mad Max/Mantric/Mastodon/Meat Loaf/Megadeth/Metallica/Mortification/Muse. But M is a boring letter. Pretty much everyone on the site's got an album by Metallica, Megadeth and Mastodon, and maybe even Muse and Meat Loaf too.
