Anyone dig the new Viikate? ... also, how's the new Agalloch piece? I am going to be seeing them live soon so I figured I'd wait to hear it until I pick up the hardcopy at the show.

how's the new Agalloch piece?

It's great. I really liked it.

They try to put in some innovative elements to their new EP, its fantastic and I suppose now their forthcoming full length album will be interesting to watch it out.

Darkjazz post metal, utterly amazing !

Bandcamp

I also recommend this album. If jazzy, sludgy, technical metal with lots of distorted sax excites you, then give it a listen (the album's name is A Lament for the Lamb. It is available for free at the band's bandcamp.

Meeh. I don't know if that kind of sounds and "energy" can work live.

Slow, heavy music is usually much more enjoyable than fast, noisy music I find. Nothing is lost in the translation and the increased volume is most pleasing ;]

I always feared it would break the whole personal vibe I get from listening to anything slow and buzzy or atmospheric. I guss it could be pretty nice to watch a whole crowd caught in a ditorsion trance.

I know it was originally released in 2011, but Beastwars will now do a worlwide release of their self-titled debut and here is the first clip. If that don't win video of the year, I'll be damned.

I finally got around to listening some previously recommended bands like Conan, Huata and Obisidan Sea. In the process, I also discovered a bunch of promising albums. I haven't listened to any of them entirely, yet, but three seemed especially interesting (check more in my 2012 list):

Old school death doom band Derkéta:

Northwinds blend progressive rock and doom metal:

Earthen Grave play doom taking cues from heavy metal. Incorporates a world class violinist to some really good effect:
