I figure we can compile some tips about going to metal concerts, because it can get rough, and that can stop you from focusing on the band. They may seem like common sense, but you'd be surpised.
Heres a few:
-Wear high laced shoes like boots or converse allstars so you don't loose em.
-Free water comes from the bathroom sinks. (if you're ultra dehydrated and low on money or you're saving to buy merch)
-Take the shit out of your pockets before your crowdsurf (i have a collection of cellphones because of this)
-If you fall on the ground during a mosh, close your mouth, and bite down, my friends cousin has permanent jaw pain for the rest of his life from getting it kicked in at a pantera show.
-Take a shower right before a show and you wont sweat as much

Your turn

People that start mosh pits at doom shows should be shot in the neck. A mosh pit is for thrash and death metal shows not for doom shows.

doom is not to be moshed to. Moshing should be done to music which is fast and has moshparts (i.e. brakdowns)
Simple, some music is to mosh and stage dive to and other music isn't, it's really simple

The most brutal pits I have ever been in are at grind shows.

All them angry ass hardcore kids in combat boots HC struttin all over the place in a circle pit can get real painful at times lol.

Being a vet of hardcore punk though, I'm used to the violence and throwing fists and hammers haha.

I'm aware that some music is suited for moshpits and some isn't. I was just surprised that you felt the need to point out that people shouldn't mosh at doom shows. I can't even imagine how people could try moshing to that kind of music.

You didn't see the Candlemass show at Hellfest 2009 (or was it 2010?) There people moshed like mad to them. And if I find one thing immensely annoying it is standing up fron just being enveloped by the music (which proper doom should do) and have those morons bump into me and then look at me pissed off for satanding still enjoying the show nodding my head.
Somehow I thought you were one of those people who think you have to and can mosh to anything, my mistake and apologies for thinking that.

Don't get me wrong, I love mosh pits, circle pits and walls of death. Just like headbanging they are a way of dancing to and celebrating the music. But just like with ballroom dancing or any other kind of dancing it annoys the fuck out of me if your dancing partners get out of time and do the right thing in the wrong moment. Walls of death are awesome in those calm before the storm moments, but some people think it's great to do them at every goddamn occasion (happened during the Destruction gig at Summer Breeze 2008, I think).

Neither do I like people who loathe moshing in general. Happens quite often at pagan/viking metal shows. Many black metal elitists around who think they know what's metal and what not and then they give you shit for starting a mosh pit during an Unleashed show. Kevin Ridley of Skyclad however was quite happy with our little "jig pit" as he called it

I don't mind moshpits. But like I said there's a time and a place for them. And a doom gig is never the time and place
As for Skyclad especialyl the older stuff can easily be mosghed to since that is some sort of folk thrash

I'd also advise those under 55kg to avoid them.
Though this one time I saw a scrawny 10-12 year old boy in the pit. Of course no one actually hit him, but I'd love to see what he's like in 5-10 years

Haha Coincidentally, it was during Devildriver's set at Heavy TO last year when I saw that little kid was moshing. This kid was under 5' and probably like 90lbs at most... and his dad was there looking out for him.
I was in the pit for a short while just for the hell of it, but then some dude sent me flying. I wasn't hurt, but I don't like moshing enough to risk injury... and I was pretty put off after I saw some guy puke in the pit right in front of us

Indeed it isn't... Though it was kind of funny, because the guy just took off his shirt, wiped his mouth on it, and threw it over where he puked, and then kept going like it didn't happen
This was outside (Downsview Park) so it's not like anyone's gonna clean it up or something.

And I spent the rest of the day checking the ground to make sure I didn't end up sitting in someone's puke every time I wanted to take a seat

Met her. She was slim and no bigger than 5' 3'', but she was kicking everyone's asses in Amon Amarth's mosh pit at Wacken. Met her two weeks later at Summer Breeze. Whenever a wall of death was in the making and she got pushed to the back, she was fighting her way back into the front row to be the first to kick the other side's asses. That girl sure was impressive. Not as impressive as Yoda finishing off Count Dokuu, but just as impressive as a Yorkshire terrier biting a grizzly and getting away with it.

Don't take your shirt off. Unless you have a bodybuilders body. And even then, don't take your shirt off.
Nobody likes those shirtless sweaty guys.

Hmmm i always take my shirt off. I do have somewhat of a bodybuilders body, but it also helps so that no one grabs your shirt and rips it or just pulls you to the ground or something along those lines.

Taking your shirt off is a good idea because a) you don't wreck your shirt, b) you don't overheat and c) people will be less likely to come near you ;]

Yes, but then you have the very real threat of getting your chest/armpit hair ripped off.

You can add "back" to that list. There are some seriously hairy people at gigs. Luckily I'm only hairy on the front of my body so I can protect myself easily. Not that I'd ever take my shirt off at gigs.

Neither do I like people who loathe moshing in general.

Does it help that I'm a bespectacled girl and that I don't preach at the venue if people do it anyway?

I'm kinda short, 5'7", but not very light (around 60-63 kg most of the time) so I just stand at the edge and tend for myself if my boyfriend's not around. I think I can defend myself from people. Still, I would never actually join a mosh pit since they're occupied by a lot of violent jerks which ruin the point of it and deal pretty violent blows, at least at local shows. We've got plenty of local jerks, like the 200lb guy who showers once a month and takes his shirt off at every gig. Not a pretty sight, believe me.

A simple suggestion to improve gigs - if you just wanna mosh and don't care for watching bands in particular (and if you mosh during every good riff and solo, I'll assume you don't wanna pay attention to what goes on on stage), relocate the pit at the back of the gig. This way, us who actually want to watch bands from a decent distance don't have to look at our back/sides all the time for stray moshers.

This doesn't apply to thrash and death metal gigs, since, well, everyone goes out there to mosh. In which case I'll just stand at the back, and bang my head for myself. Can't see the band all too well, but still, it's usually too violent and hot near the stage, and I can't exactly ask people to stop moshing because I want to be up front.

5'7" is totally not short for a girl. Skimming through this list nowhere in the world is the average height of a girl 5'7".
