1)which song does "Arkhangelsk" remind you? i am really curious..

It has this "Inside The Particle Storm" thing. No wonder, the music's written by Niclas Sundin for both. Henriksson is the best for catchy anthems, but Sundin is the best for dark moody and original tracks!

i agree for the atmosphere but not that much for the general type of the song. but for the atmosphere you are right...!

Bought it and listened to it a gazillion times. And to be honest this is Dark Tranquillity's worst album by far.

a 6 at most just for the effort.

Strangely enough, I think their worst might just be The Mind's I. Or Haven. While I like some songs on both (and the latter introduced me to the band), both have a lot of filler tracks IMO...

After more listens this album gets even better. I think its a perfectly balanced album with songs that represent everything that Dark Tranquillity is. The songs on this album are more complex than what was on Fiction, but still the melodies are awesome and memorable. A song like Archangelsk send shivers down my spine. This album will certainly be in my top 10 of 2010 even if we are only at the beginnning of the year!

I wonder how you can use that argument when you present yourself as a Doom metal fan... Classic Doom metal bands not only copy themselves everytime they record an album but they also copied Sabbath since the 1980's so repitition should not be a problem with you. Also, I don't see how Dark Tranquillity repeated themselves that much on that album. I mean, they didn't change their sound a lot but they created good new riffs like in Shadow In Our Blood, I am the Void and overwhelming melodies like in Dream Oblivion, At the Point Of Ignition, The Fatalist, In My Absence and the mighty Iridium. Plus, Archangelsk which contains interesting Black Metal influences. So where the hell did they repeat themselves that much?

True i love doom metal and also traditional doom, but in music such as traditional doom repitition is not really a problem but for music such as Dark Tranquillity plays it is imo. But stating "Classic Doom metal bands not only copy themselves everytime they record an album but they also copied Sabbath since the 1980's" is quite a huge generalization because although most traditional doom bands are inspired by Black Sabbath not many copy them. The only true copying band I can think of currently is Orchid. The rest are clearly heavily influenced by Black Sabbath but do sound entirely different and most even have a distinctive sound of their own.

Don't worry I also like traditional doom (I'm listening to Candlemasss-Candlemass right now) but I can't see how repetition is bad for some music and not for other music... And you didn't answer the second part of my message, where are DT copying themselves that much on that album?

Regardless of what Marcel thinks (;)), I think Dark Tranquillity continue to re-invent themselves, which is quite surprising and must be very hard if you have released tons of albums like they have. That's what so commendable about DT. I have been listening to the album all week and so far and "In my Absence" and "Iridium" are my favourite songs. The keyboards in this album are exceedingly good and different somehow. A highlight for me also is both Stanne's vocals and lyrics. I don't really know how to be technical about this, but his growl (some ppl say he doesn't growl, he screams, whatever) has a wider range and goes to different places and the result is something very beautiful.

And I really like the bonus tracks as well, I pretty much think they should have been included in the album but I guess they wanted to end up with "Iridium" in a high.

Finally got it! Just a good album that will give some more lifespan to the band. I don't like the artwork much and the less tracks (bonus tracks popped like mushrums in this recording).

The Fatalist, Her Silent Language, Surface the infinite caught my attention since the first time i listened the songs at their myspace.

7/10 what i feel now.. that's it!

Good album, enjoy the dis-harmonics they sprinkle in now and then making the album sound a little darker.

This album is a bit of a letdown for me. Still a pretty good album, but not up to DT standards in my ears. Sort of sounds like a shell of DT's former self. Going to give it a few more listens, hopefully it'll get better with each.

Some songs surprised me. All in all, a pretty good album. The keyboard harmony sprinkles and the overall darker tone are a nice touch. Artwork's kinda stupid though, very uninspiring, unlike the artwork for many previous DT offerings. Iridium, personally for me, was a bit of a letdown though. Could have been a better ending.

A bit better than their past two albums, but just may be due to them trying to step away from their sound from Damage Done. Really the only thing going for this album though are the keyboards (kind of reminds me of Eternal Tears of Sorrow for some reason. The guitar work is hooky but kind of uninspiring if you ask me, and the vocals just seems strained and unvaried and kind of shallow. Overall a listenable and in the least bit enjoyable album.

At the first listens I was a little sceptical, and I didn't enjoyed it as much as Fiction. But I gave it a second chance and after a numerous plays, it started to grow on me. I think its a raw album compared to Fiction; somewhat heavier, but has a lot of great keyboard atmosphere and melodies. I'm enjoying it a lot.

Finally got to listen to this fully, agree with Marcel, the album lacks any sort of substance that made Dark Tranquillity into Dark Tranquillity.

You people are nuts! This is amazing album. Repetition?? Lack of originality? What a crappy argument...
