Haha...this is a funny thread. Yeah I dunno I think it can be narrowed down to the following:

1) Adolescents often get teased at school when they're fat --> leads to self-confidence issues.
2)Many of those kids with the issues then turn into listening to metal, the fat girls dont fit in in school, they cant be all preppy like other girls, they get angry and resentful and start listening to "heavy" music.
3) This is why, even here in South Africa, when you go to metal gigs most of the girls are fat - the guys in the scene often ALSO have self esteem issues, they feel they need a girlfriend, and 8/10 of the girls they can choose from (who are equally shy and in need for acknowledgment) are overweight.

...Hence the reason why you predominantly see metal guys dating fat girls. To be honest, I cant really think of too many metal girls thats Ive ever met over here who arent fat (well apart from my fiancee )

LOL, this thread is funny to me too But nonetheless, I haven't noticed any such connection myself, I don't label people as ''fat'' or ''skinny'' or whatever. Ok, what you some talked about, if someone is really obese, it is a health problem, but then, so it is if someone is really really skinny. What bothers me most are the extremes, such as:

I think that isn't the point of it at all. You can heave a slim/slender/normal looking chick looking like a freak, and a fatty who knows how to dress properly, and in that case, I think fat chick is the way to go But I do agree it's bothering when overly fat people (especially girls) wear outfits that are not proper for them. I know some slifgtly overweight girls who know how to dress, they pick sizes they can actually fit and they look more fine.

And then well personally, I notice person's face firstly, so if someone slim is an uggo and a fatty is very cute, I think the fatty wins

And I do agree a bit with the fact of having low self-esteem but.... That can be fixed. I know, cause I used to be a fatty and I was also thinking I could never get a guy who is good looking and nice, and to tell you the truth, even when I lost about 15 kilograms I still felt fat in the inside and had the same issues. It takes some time to fully embrace yourself, whether you are slender of have some extra baggage and then you can shine and that self-esteem really starts to shine out and makes a person way more desirable.

Then again, I personally don't know any really fat metal chick or a guy who would have her as a gf, but I do see some of them in metal clubs and such. As written above, metal is for everyone

You do realise that this attitude is just as superficial if not even more so, than someone criticising someone's looks just because they are overweight? People who are "uggos" cant help that. You have no control over your natural features. At least some obese people are that way through their own fault, its preventable. There are some people who have health issues which contribute to, or are actually the cause of, them being overweight. But most people can prevent themselves from becoming overweight.

I dont think there is any such thing as an outfit that is "not proper" for someone. Only in that, I see plenty of overweight girls dressing as if they are slim, wearing clothes that are much too small for them.

I wasn't criticising about anything or anyone, just stated that a person' face is the one thing in physical appearance I am mostly drawn to, when meeting a new person. I don't know how anything of this could not be superficial, as in, when you meet somebody new, you don't have a clue what this's person's gonna be like. Some may judge by the weight, some may prefer a certain hair colour, eye colour, whatever. And when I see a person I don't know, I will look at their face firstly. I don't the ''superficiality'' here is just the same. And well, fat people have diets and exercises, ''uggos'' have plastic surgeons.

As I said, I think someone overweight can hide a couple of pounds and enhances their attributes. If someone dresses properly to his figure surely brings out the best of it. I just think it looks ridiculous when someone overweight is trying to fit in clothes a couple of sizes too small.

Alright where i live Thunder Bay, ontario, i get a couple of shows a year (Going to see aborted can't wait!) , the last one i went to was a Shadows fall concert, when i went there i saw only about 10 girls out of about 250 people, and i have to say it was a wide range of weight. so....
as for me i like a girl whose average none under 100lbs none over 225lbs i just think anything passed those is unhealthy. i also find that thunder bay is also hick central where everybody listens to country... and despise you if you don't... needless to say i'm single

Here in Sweden it's way more common for metalheads to have really skinny girlfriends.

Cruise wasn't really the word I wanted, how about... if you view profiles... whatever, you get the idea...

Actually, come to think of it if I see couples dressed in metal-styled or with band T-shirts, quite a lot of them are fat. I agree with quite a few points mentioned above such as self esteem issues on both sexes, but obviously they are stereo-typified.

I've never been to a metal gig before tbh, so I don't know the bigger picture... While my gf hates metal so... ^ ^

btw, I am totally not attracted to robust women (no offence meant) even though I have female friends with a relatively rounder figure... I am not familiar with the females on MS, but random clicking on the profiles of those who posted in this thread shows that they are not fat at all

I know someone who looks exactly like that, except she's more cyber than metal (well so's the girl in this pic really) but lol indeed. I'd probably fancy the ass off that if she was a tad slimmer.

Seems to me that the presence of (somewhat) overweight girls in the metal scene is due to the condition of their interests. If they're less likely to attract a lot of males, then it would make sense to enter a sub-culture that's male dominated but not so superficial (though is sold as being the opposite quite often). Since it's mostly based around the skills of agility and timing, it's not like there's much to worry about in terms of athleticism, so no pressure there (unless you're an extreme metal drummer). Also, it seems to be more of a phase requiring a lot of support, so entering a relationship under those circumstances may help more than relying on other male friends.

But on a broader view, it seems to just facilitate getting into a relationship, because most metalheads (I figure) don't conform to some social rules in the first place, so not being picky may just be due to expectations working for or against them. So there's still the peer pressure, but it's not as demanding.

Personally, I'd date whoever agrees to date me, provided I'm attracted, like most anyone else. If she's into metal, that'd be an awesome bonus, but it's not really a requirement.

I do wish there are more hot girls in metal though... It's not as if there's none, but I'm sure many would agree that the metal scene could do with more

I don't think Metal is the paradise of fat people, indeed, I think you will find almost everything there, I rather associate fatness with nerdy and geeky groups than with metal, and yeah, I know that lots of metalheads have a geeky/nerdy side, but not every geek and nerd is a metalhead.

I don't think there's an overwight (pun intended) of fat girls in the Danish metal scene or at least I haven't noticed.
