How come Hellish Star has not noticed this thread yet and started claiming the superiority of US Power Metal?

In my opinion, there is no such thing as best scene ever. The most important centre for the formation of metal bands and development of different genres such as Progressive Metal, Melodic Death Metal and even Nu Metal has been the Berklee College of Music (Dream Theater, Killswitch Engage, Steve Vai...). Most of my favourite bands match the "Finnish Power Metal" option (Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, etc.) but they have not made such a big contribution to Metal history such as, say, old school NWOBHM (Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Saxon...) or Bay Area Thrash Metal (especially Metallica and Slayer). I'll just pick my favourite option, i.e. Finnish Power Metal.

i'm biting my nails thinking when will hellish star come here and ruin the poll lol

Well i agree there are no best scene, for me, because I like almouts all genres and listen them all, it depends how I feel and what i wanna but some pll listen genre but for example power metal, so witch are best Finish, German, Spanish, Italian? So just like in old forumk I menation best scene are world

Norwegian scene is the best... I have no doubt!

Norwegian black metal - it's by far the most intense and one of the closest-knit scenes, and produced a lot of truly excellent music. The fact that black metal is Norway's biggest cultural export says it all, really.

Good scene ethere are starts man all what we know metal, but nowdays its bouncing in old glory of past

the best scene is imo the west european black metal scene.... pftt.... countries like france, germany, italy are produsing top quality bm in big numbers; second best would be the east european scene with russia, ukraine, romania, czech rep and the baltic states. 3rd best is north america with us and canada.

BTW Im disapointed in Brazilian scene jus in MA so many non sence bands one demo bands

I voted for Norsk Black Metal, I think this is the best sscene from the list, just love all the bands from the old Norwegian scene, too bad it is dead now.

Finnland (power metal), holland, england, finnland (melodeath)

i´m really into power metal and Finnland has those great bands, so i had to chose them.
Holland: many great bands there, Epica, After Forever, The Gathering, i love bands with female (great) voices, also, there´s Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon)
England: the legendary bands :p, no more reasons
Finnland again: i like sometimes that "different"genre, over all Children Of Bodom

For me it was between the florida death scene and the Norweigan black metal scene. The flarida death scene had great bands like Atheist, Death, Obituary, Monstrosity, Deicide, Morbid Angel, and Malevolent Creation, but the Norweigan scene had Burzum, Mayhem, Immortal, Darkthrone, Emperor.

I'm going to vote for the Norweigan black metal scene, because right now I'm listening to a lot more black metal than death metal and I'm finding a deeper respect for black metal.

i voted for the Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden option of course because if that did not take off there - who knows what things would be like now..

and also i would have expected a German option to be on there with the rise of German power metal

About England also Raven, Saxon, Witchfounder Genreal, Pagan Altar, Motorhead and those bands what be forgoten and about Germany thay had bigger trad metal scene how UK, maybe bigest in world

I believe its the CRIME scene
I voted for finland-melodeth coz I love the way they mix Power Metal with Death Metal vocals its just wonderful

well first of all i have to comment that your finland-melo death section is extreme power, not melo death, and second that Lunatica are swiss and not dutch (and not really gothic either)

however i go for the "dutch gothic scene" anyway
because i like the bands in the example most

I voted for Gotenburg just beacause of two little bands(Arch Enemy, Amon Amarth) that influenced my life for the better!

The finnish EXTREME POWER METAL scene would have to come in a close second(sorry for the capitals but it must be stressed that Children of Bodom is in no way melo-death)

As pointed out with black metal, bands in these subgenres aren't really comparable, simply because of bands that come from other countries which aren't particularly well-known in the same genres as the countries listed. An example of a band I like that obviously doesn't fit within the set choices of this would be Catamenia, they come from Finland and yet they are Black Metal, get the point? If you wanted a more flexible poll, you might have been better off just asking what is your favourite subgenre, although I'm pretty sure it's already been done.

Yeah thats probably true as well. Although most scenes are like that anyway.
