So, there's always the question of what is the best metal album ever! But still there are many EP's like Emperor's "Emperor" or the new Entombed that leave you like this so i always wondered what is the best EP of all time

my personal Favorite's are
Neurosis - Sovereign
Cave In - Tides Of Tomorrow

my question is what is your favorite EP of all time

Yeah, and at MA they mention it as an EP as well. I don't know how they call it themselves, but well. It is just too good not to mention.

I see quite a few people mention Deathspell Omgea - Kenose. I know they and everyone else calls it an e.p. but I have problems with calling as such since it is 36 minutes long and thus 7 minutes longer than Slayer's full length Reign In Blood buit then again Revenrend Bizarre have an e.p. of 70+ minutes.

I thought of exactly the same thing while I listend to it this morning. I mean I have heard shitloads of albums much shorter, even as short as 26 minute long, yet this "EP" is 37 mins long? Its the leanght of a standard album. Feels weird to call it an EP

Id have to say Dark Moor - Between Light And Darkness
Its like a whole album

Im not that interested in EP's though, live tracks and most unreleased tracks are not too fascinating for me. Id much prefer a whole live album or something.

It must be A Change of Seasons by Dream Theater. Not only is the title song one of the best songs ever but the covers performed live are wonderful too. It's also a long one, 50 minutes!

Yes, that EP is fucking awesome. I love the guitar-driven style of it, especially Wish.

I can't make up my mind, but my favorites are Despise the Sun and Human Waste by Suffocation, Mercyful Fate's self-titled EP, and Grotesque Impalement by Dying Fetus. Grotesque Impalement and Despise the Sun really should have been full length CDs because the songs on those EPs are just fucking brilliant.

That would be on my short list as well. I loved it from first listen...

"Head like a Hole" 'hit' several years after 'Pretty Hate Machine' was released, at least in more mainstream circles. I used to co-DJ some hole in the wall club while stationed in Guam, and whenever some obvious 'poser' would come in and request NiN hoping I would play "Head like a Hole" or "Down in it", i'd break out with "Gave Up" or "Wish" just to piss in their Wheaties.

The best part about playing some dirty ass dive bar turned 'club' two night a week club with a regular crowd of about 10 friends is I would pretty much play whatever the hell I wanted to.

Orphaned Land - The Beloved's Cry

But to be honest, I don't have that many EPs so the choice is not very difficult. I have more demos than EPs. I usually only have EPs when I absolutely love the band and even so I only value my Anathema EPs.
I dont know, its a format I dont use/want that much.

I had a deep thought about this and I'd have to say Arsis' "A Diamond For Disease" EP is my favourite, I rarely become sick of it (only when I overplay it ). And yes, they're better than any other technical band existent nowdays, IMO.

A great old school Heavy Metal band from Canada released their (to date) EP 'Day of the Saxons' in 1984 and anyone who's heard it, you know it's fantastic. It's just packed school of everything you need to make a band great.
