Black metal is the only true extreme black metal there is .. just kidding! But surely Black Metal is great. Personally I love the way bm is now evolving into mixtures of jazz and other musical orientations just like the Norwegian black metal scene was originally created (did you know that one of Mayhems biggest influences was Pink Floyd?). Let's all just love/hate bm like it should be! I start with a cool link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4n3pxNbOW8&feature=related

I sat around thinking about the 80's just the other day. I'm not the kinda guy that thinks the past's better than the present (quite the opposite as a matter of fact) but I still like the "first wave" of extreme metal. Band like Venom, Possessed, Celtic Frost and so on. How do you relate to them? Is the old garde ever played nowadays (I mean the old records - some of the bands are still active!!)?

You guys should check out Bestia Arcana. Chaotic, dissonant black metal with a constant feeling of impending doom throughout their music. Their album will be released in November via Daemon Worship Productions, entitled "To Anabainon Ek Tes Abyssu". You can listen to two of the tracks here: http://soundcloud.com/daemon-worship/sets/bestia-arcana-to-anabainon-ek/

29.11.2011 - 06:45 Written by The Turbanator on 24.11.2011 at 12:53 I listened to Urfaust yesterday and I don't want to be negative but that is by far the worst shit I've ever heard! It sounds like three idiots trying to break their instruments while a fourth idiot is screaming totally out of control (and they are only two!!). Normally when you hear brutal and raw music you can still hear that there is a song behind it or at least some musicianship but in this case I would rather listen to the sound of a house getting demolished. I understand if you like it out of a noise perspective to listen to it like some kind of anger management thing but to call it music is not even close to the truth.

29.11.2011 - 07:03 Written by Savopipo on 29.11.2011 at 06:45 I actually like it from both a black metal perspective and a noise perspective, although saying noise =/= music is a ludicrous statement.

29.11.2011 - 09:35 Written by Troy Killjoy on 29.11.2011 at 07:03 Then the sound of someone hitting a piece of metal with a hammer or a brick wall falling to the ground can be considered music and in that I disagree. On the other hand if someone wants to sell records where they have recorded the sound of someone beating on a guitar while screaming in an uncontrolled manner and other people like to buy them that's ok with me. I've never understood the people that listens to records with recorded birds song either.

29.11.2011 - 09:39 Written by Savopipo on 29.11.2011 at 09:35 Well I wouldn't say hitting a piece of metal with a hammer is good music necessarily, but it's not that different from beating a drum with a drum stick. I mean, tastes differ, and I take no issue with you disliking something like SVEST, but if you're going to insult a band or album at least try to do it with some manner of intelligence. Referring to Urfaust as "noise" just goes to show you're out of your element.

29.11.2011 - 09:49 Written by Troy Killjoy on 29.11.2011 at 09:39 In this case I can't see that calling it noise is an insult since it's obvious that that is what they've set out to create. Hitting a drum without any sense of tempo or rythm in a complete random way is not music either. I'm sorry if you feel that it's an insult to your "taste" in music but what's the purpose of a discussion where everyone just sits around and say stuff like "it's awesome dude!!"? Instead try to develop what you're saying by showing me facts in relation to Urfaust that proves your point - namely that it's music.

29.11.2011 - 09:58 Written by Savopipo on 29.11.2011 at 09:49 I meant "noise" the way you seemed to imply, as if it was some inherently redundant form of music. If you're calling it a noise album based on its repetition and feedback technique (as well as its unorthodox structure) then I agree with you that it's a black metal/noise hybrid. As for what makes it music... I dunno, it's hard to explain to you since you consider a lot of things to be the opposite of music, such as hammering a piece of metal, which if done correctly could be considered music. Urfaust is raw, lo-fi black metal with the typical shrieks/blastbeat combination and extreme guitar dissonance buried incredibly low in the mix. Those things combine to equal what I consider to be music. The "glitchy" aspect of it falls in line with noise, but all in all I'd still consider it music. Since Lou Reed is now super popular with the metal crowd, you should listen to Metal Machine Music.

I actually listened to one of the songs again with headphones and it's a little better that way. I now hear that there are some musical passages underneath the noise that I didn't catch when I listened to it in the car. Maybe I was a little bit too judgemental about the band. I will give them a second chance with headphones.

No worries, I mean it's not like you have to like them. I just kinda thought you were being a little unfair when describing it. I wish !J.O.O.E.! were online, he could explain noise a lot better than I ever could.

29.11.2011 - 10:40 Written by Troy Killjoy on 29.11.2011 at 10:05 But I do like very raw and brutal black metal like Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega so I guess I was expecting to like this and got a bit disappointed when I couldn't hear anything but white noise. I realize now after listening again that that was the result of the raw production, the way instruments are played and my car stereos bad sound qualities.

29.11.2011 - 10:42 Written by Savopipo on 29.11.2011 at 10:40 Damn car stereos. Although I wouldn't call BaN or DSO raw or brutal black metal, especially since bands like S.V.E.S.T., Ash Pool, Striborg, etc. exist.

You should hear that album with headphones, sounds much better. It's just something else. Not the typical Dead Raven Choir noise bullshit. It has melody in it. The production is very low, that's typical for Raw BM. DSO and BAN are barely raw. Also, I don't think the latest Ash Pool is raw anymore. Maniac Butcher is another good one.

29.11.2011 - 14:10 Written by The Turbanator on 29.11.2011 at 13:29 I usually do but it's hard to find time and I spend almost two hours a day in my car so I try to catch up during that time. In this case it was a mistake. I would never dream of listening to Abruptum in my car so I can't understand why I tried this lot. Edit: I listened a little to Maniac Butcher and I must say that compared to S.V.E.S.T they sound really technical and well produced, I like it a lot!! I guess the older material is not as easy on the ears.

This is the first song, which I think is pretty awesome. I don't expect you to like them or anything, just putting some of their more accessible work here. Oh... and listen to it on your room with headphones... not in your car.
