Now that's a brutal bill!

Three of the best brutal/technical French death metal bands touring together? Yep. Plus, it's already known in these parts that both Gorod and Benighted are awesome live bands (check here, here and here if you don't believe me), so we all were sure to enjoy a great and brutal show. Plus, the sound at the Saint des Seins is usually loud, but relatively clear (and it was once again the case this night): another good reason to enjoy the evening. As it turns out, the small venue (300 people) was totally crowded, blisteringly hot, and about 50 more people were denied entry? They wouldn't have been able to enter or breathe inside, anyway.[/i]

Gorod

The band was in a bit of a flux, as there are two new members (Nicolas on guitars and Julien "Nutz" on vocals), and I'm pretty sure this was their first tour with this new line-up. So yes, they were a bit hesitant at times, Nicolas being quite shy for example. Also, Nutz sadly isn't as powerful a vocalist as his predecessor, so it lacked a bit in this department (however, he should be interesting to hear on album, as he modulates and articulates better than ?).

All in all, it was a nice show, that gained momentum nicely, but the band has to regain its footing for sure...

Kronos

They were the unknown quantity for quite a few persons. So, it started pretty coldly, with only a few people in front of the stage, and almost everyone outside chatting and enjoying the fresh air. This sure changed as the set went on, however. I left quite early to inhale some fresh air, but went I came back inside, the venue was packed with a moshpit in full swing, as the band took no prisoners with their furious, no-holds-barred assault.

A worthy contender for brutality with the headliner, they were impressive indeed!

Benighted

What could I say that hasn't been said before? Nothing, really. Sure, I could insist on the violent moshpit (which is nothing unusual ), mention the fact that they played quite a lot of new songs (only a logical move), insist on the unbreathably hot air in the venue (my oh my it was hot inside!), or say that the band were delighted to see us being completely mad? But I would only repeat what's always been said about Benighted's shows.

So, long story made short: wherever you are, come and see them. Or, pester your local promoters and organizers so they invite them to play near your home! Period.

Conclusion

Not close to perfection, but not far either. This was a pure blast of a violent evening. Awesomeness, madness and the damage done indeed

Many thanks to Raf for the accreditation!

Gorod has a new vocalist? Oh no... Part of the reason I loved Process of a New Decline was because of the vocals. I'll have to look up this new guy.
EDIT: And nice job with the Shining [Nor] reference. Still think that album is as perfect as it gets.
