I already have quite a few albums to look forward to in 2016, so I figured we'd go ahead and get this thread started. The two so far are the upcoming Ctheilist and Lycus albums. Ctheilist embody all that is great with strange Lovecraftian death metal, while Lycus are an incredibly solid funeral doom outfit.

Blackened heavy doom from Norway. At some point it reminds me of Darkthrone.

Weird sort of swedish garage rock/black/death. Not sure what to compare this, though it maybe had some sort of raw Tribulation vibes. Overall just kinda weird.

Reveal - Flystrips

Imagery and song titles are also kind of bizarre. I like the single cover

Normally I'm not a huge Black Metal fan, but I have to say that I do like this album.

It seems that Wędrujący Wiatr have a new album out. Atmospheric black metal with a proper production for this type of music.

Urfaust - Empty Space Meditation

This is because the album has about 25% of BM in it

I'd say Qu'Qu'Matz - Tepeu is "extreme progressive metal" but it wouldn't be a fair description because people
would think it's those things like Opeth or something... This one has a lot dirtier production and the song "structure" (if you can picture an structure) is a lot messier

And Specules - That Scraping Sound blends lo-fi black metal and some sorta indie pop/psychedelic rock thing

Quite possible, I'm not an expert in the BM genre. :p

WARNING: Unlistenable raw bm ahead! Pretty awful release tbh.

Blackened Doomened Grindcorened Noisened stuff from Seattle. Can't even nail where this belongs. Pretty weird stuff. The rhythm guitar itself sounds quite bassy.

You guys are quick on the new releases. I found my way back here even though I wanted to be a more active poster and forgot about it. Anyway, I wanted to see what you think about Tepeu by Q'uq'umatz coming from the same person who brought you th great ZÖN

Thanks for digging it, I had a lot of fun making it

I was trying to quote your post but on mobile everything is all dark and laggy so I just did a quick reply. Still not metal enough for the Archives though.

It got out so quickly that it was almost overwhelming. Got a nod from some big black metal blog, a French webzine, and ran out of my 200 free download credits in 2 days. I dunno how but it's sweet.

Anyway.... Some great stuff has come around this year. I'm a big fan of Unortheta by Zhrine, really well done dissonant but also melodic death/black metal. On tour with Ulcerate, who also have a fantastic 2016 album. I just listened to the new Deathspell Onega release yesterday, really nice as always. And more greats from Obscura, Oranssi Pazuzu, Coma Cluster Void and such.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say my album of the year is Dissociation by the Dillinger Escape Plan though

Some obscure blackened post-metal. Not sure whether I like it or not, but it's quite interesting.

would not call it post metal. More like psychedelic black metal.
It is very nice for me.

I liked it a lot. I adore what u do with your production. With Zon also it was pretty awesome. Your approach was also fresh on my ears.
How would you categorize it?

I've just been calling Tepeu progressive/experimental black metal. The guys over at the metal archives don't think it's metal because they listened to three minutes and didn't hear any. That's kinda whack though, like, I got intros. Punk asses.

Lol whatever. I had more of a Negura Bunget sound in mind before starting, with more folk stuff, but went deeper down into the avant-garde. The lyrics are excerpts from the Popol Vuh (not like you can make them out though ha) and I guess it would kinda be a concept album about the Mayan genesis.

Zon is hard to categorize on the whole.

I'm convinced that they don't give submissions a fair listen. Told me " It seems to be a rule of thumb that if you have to give us detailed instructions on how to find the metal sections, that the band as a whole is not predominantly metal."
