In my youth I didn't actually study ... Metal was my life and I hated school so my parents obliged me to work....
I had a fantastic youth; Metal, girls and some more metal and girls... I worked as a dj in a metal pub so I didn't have time to study
After I was married I was more "mature" so I started my studies anuway (I already had a job)... I went to the university of Ghent to study criminology and I finished my studies in 1999...
Looking back to it: it's better to study when you're young; it was too hard to work, have children and study at the university at the same time...

You guys should check out Boards Of Canada. Good stuff to study to. Or if you're building a website or doing something painstaking that can be tedious on the computer, you find yourself wanting basically what these guys can deliver through electronica. It is varied and will basically help keep you going. Some tracks are just interesting pockets of texture and mood within the album, while others are gloriously built-up instrumental anthems of reason, patience and unique mixtures of organic and digital samples as well as synthesized scapes and melodies.
Sometimes it's the stuff that's born of meditation, with beautiful sounding pads that progress and evolve on themselves while an innovative and stylish beat backs it up. Other times they strip it down to a children's style tune that's presented in a well-produced way, but with other things being introduced throughout the course of the song to add and change the character.
One thing that is always consistant, I've noticed, is how good the drums and percussion are. On every song they are organic as opposed to the flat techno sound that so many other electronica groups have [this group consists of just two stoners in Scotland (that's right, they're nothing to do with Canada) that sit in the same small space working tightly together shifting through sounds looking for something new and something to play with]. The drums also have a lot of rythm to them. Strangely hip hop, at other times strangely deep - low bass that seems buried underground and snare hits that you swear you could chew - but always fucking stylish sounding, with a breakbeat flavour which to metallers means: not those shit hectic drug music beats that the fucking dickhead football hooligan townies are listening to.
In short, imagine if Mr. Scruff or Lemon Jelly became fucking cool.
Recently though I would also blatantly go for Pelican - City Of Echoes. The problem would be that it's so fucking good I would keep getting distracted.

It is the best if I listen to music without lyrics or with lyrics that I cannot understand without the lyrics printed on the inlay(when I am not interested in the lyrics anyway).

Without music, cuz if i like it, im not going to pay 100% attention to what im studying, and if i don't like it, im going to pay less attention, cuz all my attention, is going to be trying to shut down the music.

Anaal Natharkh, the shieking atmosphere and violence music make me feel more concentrated and very vehement, that would help me more confident when dealing with study. Just realized that yesterday evening.

i love listening to extreme metal when revising and doing assignments because it creates this feeling of movement around me, i hate it when everything is still and silent.

I don't know why but Mayhem don't disturb my concentration!

I agree. Studying with metal on means I have to divide attention between learning and enjoying music. I would rather just skip something else so I can listen to the metal!
In general, when I listen, I like to have nothing else going on, with the exception of fairly rote tasks like cooking, driving, sodomizing baby Christ...

This should be either something boring or something else....it depends on what you're studying and where and when and on the mood as well....
One should play something calm or something where the music is largely based on certain pattern or where all the tracks are more or less similar and/or even monotone.....
I wouldn't suggest playing something really really interesting...it'll take your attention away....but then again it always depends....

I can listen any kind of music while I'm doing exercises or homeworks, but when I have to study behind the books, than the music doesn't go along...also the classical or calm music isn't apropriate for me also, cause I can easily fall a sleep in a moment, with the books in my hands

Well obviously listening to any kind of music while exercising isn't much of a problem because you're not concentrating on studying...

I like quiet instrumentals when studying, preferably atmospheric or acoustic. Nothing too startling or exciting, because it distracts too much. It's horrible trying to pay attention to, say, linguistics while an awesome solo or a catchy riff/chorus is playing.

I find that classical music is the best music to study with because its calming and i can concentrate better while listening to it.. if i listen to music with lyrics while studying i focus too much on listening to what they are singing in the song rather than what im doing. i can also listen to symphonic metal with operatic female vocals.

Studying with music in my ears isn't much of a good idea for me, because well, i listen to death metal let's say 80% of the time and i don't want to end up ripping my school papers. Although maybe if i would put some Pelican or Baroness it would'nt be to bad.
Anyways, listening to Necrophagist while reading Stephen King's 'Misery' worked hehe.

I'm another person who really can't concentrate FULLY what I'm reading unless its quite. But classical music puts me in the state of mind and slowly drifts into the background. I couldn't ever read and listen to Gorgoroth because it would totally disrupt the author's vision that I'm trying to see!!!
You're definitely an awesome multi-tasker if you can read 'Beyond Good and Evil' and listen to extreme metal!
I like to listen to Secrets of the Moon when I draw though..

How can you study with classical music.... It makes me sleepy.
I have discovered I study better with electronica/EBM. Cause with metal it makes me sing along so I tend to start thinking of the lyrics. With electro I focus more on the music... It makes me think faster.

Mmmm Matter of tastes I guess since I don't fell sleppy at all when I hear Classical music. Is just touching stuff for me. So I can't concentrate a lot since I'm sensitive with that kind of music.
I can use every style of music to study.
