Kirk: Unforgiven, Master of Puppets, Through The Never, Fade To Black
Dave: Five Magics, Holy Wars, Wake Up Dead (2nd)
My vote goes to Kirk just because I find his solos more beautiful, and he has more of those that I really like besides then ones I mentioned.
When I talk about my favorite solos, I am usually guided by how well they fit into a song and by melody (speed is not that important).
Talk about your favorite solos, so that there is no milk and water in your posts and so that we know what you are guided by when you pick one guitarist over the other. So I would like to know your opinion about who is better and why, and... vote! But please don't expand this thread to Metallica vs Megadeth battle; it's not what it was meant to be. Solos, just solos.

29.06.2008 - 16:50 Written by K✞ulu on 29.06.2008 at 16:45 well really wah-wah on riffs sounds kind of weird, especially with metallica's fast stuff(Wherever i May Roam is a different story though) solo's generally sound good with a little wah-wah, but that's just a matter of taste.

@Marcel i dont think its too easy when u r palyin a fast solo! cause u have to push or pull it at the actul time. and its not as easy as Gas Pedal when u ride!!! who said its so easy. and other effects doesnt need another part of body, but when u use wah-wah u have to think and control ur leg's force man. its not as easy as u said.

Even if I were to play "Master of Puppets" note for note in perfect time with the same guitar and amp Kirk used to record the original version, it will still sound different. On the flip side, I would love to see Kirk Hammet try and play "Under A Glass Moon".

I think the solo on Under a Glass Moon is a very beautiful and complex. but I'm sure Kirk would be able to play it (nice joke Dane ). Same goes with Dave (since it's a Kirk vs Dave thread). And as far as Dream Theater's cover of Master of Puppets. it's pretty good (but I really don't like the vocals). The solo is played pretty well too; it was just split with the keyboardist. And plus I think when making covers, one doesn't have to play solos note-in-note. And I guess Dane also got a point.

01.07.2008 - 12:46 Written by [user id=31891] on 01.07.2008 at 11:26 I know I have to vote, but I haven't even listened to all of Megadeth's albums. So eventually I will. So what do you mean by saying that Kirk plays Mustaine's solos better on Kill 'Em All. How can one compare that? Dave never played those solos... And comparing the first two albums is not a good to evaluate their solos overall. The only pertinent point related to this thread would be comparing Kirk's solo on The Four Horsemen (which I guess was written by Mustaine) and Mustaine's solo Mechanix. Comparing them, I can say that I like the way Kirk's solo is sounding better, but it doesn't mean that I like all his solo better than Mustaine's (I don't even know whether all the Megadeth solo that I love so much are played by Mustaine ). So that's another reason why I still abstain from voting and plus other people's opinion is interesting for me. By the way I still haven't voted in your Cliff vs Jason thread.

@Ktulu if we want to vote we have just 2 ways, we have to choose cause of Techniques and Speed or choose cause of Heart and hearing. yes im agree that someone loves Dave. and someone loves Kirk. but i think if we want to choose cause of Skills Kirk is better. and if i was a Megadeth fand i would choose kirk. but yes maybe some of Megadeth's solo's r gettin to heart, but not metallica's. cause metallca's solo's r a little cold and hard(if its the right thing to say, and sometimes not always). and i said that u can listen to megadeth's first album, cuase a lot of ppl say that "Kill 'Em All's" and even "Master Of Puppets's" solo's almost has written by Dave. so why Dave didn wrote such solo's for his personal band? ( i know that we r not talkin about songwrtting here but its just a question)

01.07.2008 - 16:34 Written by [user id=31891] on 01.07.2008 at 16:22 Let's leave the voting part alone for now 'cause as I said I haven't listen to all Megadeth albums yet. Right now I tend to vote for Kirk, but maybe that's a problem of subjectivity, so I am taking my time 'cause you can't revote on MS. And as for your question, I wouldn't say any solos for Master of Puppets were written by Dave. And I doubt if any on Ride The Lightning were. But people would and say that he wrote The Call of Ktulu and Creeping Death bla bla bla. If he did, he would include them in one of his albums like Mechanix. And besides, personally for me, no solo by Metallica reminds me of Megadeth. That's it.
