I figure we can compile some tips about going to metal concerts, because it can get rough, and that can stop you from focusing on the band. They may seem like common sense, but you'd be surpised.
Heres a few:
-Wear high laced shoes like boots or converse allstars so you don't loose em.
-Free water comes from the bathroom sinks. (if you're ultra dehydrated and low on money or you're saving to buy merch)
-Take the shit out of your pockets before your crowdsurf (i have a collection of cellphones because of this)
-If you fall on the ground during a mosh, close your mouth, and bite down, my friends cousin has permanent jaw pain for the rest of his life from getting it kicked in at a pantera show.
-Take a shower right before a show and you wont sweat as much

Your turn

That is NOT short.

Seriously. I don't even see girls above 5'6" here. Most of them float hover around the 5'1" - 5'4" mark.

I know a few that are taller than me, which is fairly awkward.

But yeah, most are in that range, 5ish-5'6"

I'm kinda short, 5'7", but not very light (around 60-63 kg most of the time).

Wait wait wait... like the others before me said that is NOT... I repeat, that is NOT short for a girl.
You are also wrong by saying that you aren't very light... C'mon you are friggin 170cm and you say that 60-63 isn't very light. That IS light.

Shit I'm even a bit pissed since I would kill for a few cms (I'm 166/ 5'5.4'') and you say you are "kind of short"

Hehehe I really feel much better now about my height which is about 5'2 due to the things said above happy about that, well about mosh pit , well why a tiny one shouldn't avoid it ??! I do avoid it. I wish they could just start it in the back not the front, some really go to live shows for hearing the music and they really care for what's going on the stage.

I'm sorry honey but we are talking about facts here and this is a forum so therefore, we don't give in. You are taller than any average number of any country. That by default is called tall for a girl and there's no question about it.

About weight...You aren't exactly a dying skeleton but you sure as hell can't use the word "heavy" or "not so light" to describe yourself. The fact that girls put their weight on different places won't change anything.

I think the most tragic thing that gets overlooked by people is the importance of ear plugs at a gig. If you're going to around 5+ shows a year without some kind of ear protection, you're probably going to be pretty deaf by your mid 30s. It looks lame but would you rather get tinnitus and not be able to listen to metal? I have 3 friends with tinnitus, 2 of which got it from listening to metal too loud and they're both under 25 :\

As for the pit, I'd say ensure you wear flat shoes and do NOT bring a fucking beer into the crowd at any point or you WILL end up wearing it instead of drinking it. Above all, if you're going into the pit I've found the best way to avoid getting knocked on your ass is to actually be aggressive. You're far easier to knock over when you're standing upright and not paying attention to what's going on around you.

tell me about it. I have damaged hearing due not using earplugs when going to gigs in my teens. At the time I attended around 30-50 gigs a year. Now I do wear earplugs just so that it doesn't get any worse. I have tinnitus in my left ear and right one is too swell any more either.

Yeah man I'm pretty paranoid about it happening to me. In fact at 30-50 gigs a year I'm surprised you can still hear at all There seems to be a feeling within the metal community that wearing earplugs means you're not a real metal head or you're some kind of pussy.. but screw that it's better than going deaf! Also if you ask me earplugs make the sound clearer at a gig and save you the annoying ringing in your ears after.

Not here. Here it is normal for more than half the people present to wear earplugs and they don't get any shit for it from the others.

That's good to hear. When I go to gigs in Dublin I might see a maximum of maybe 5 other people wearing plugs, and most of the time it seems to be older metal heads like yourself who most likely also have damaged hearing and are just doing it to prevent further damage. It's a shame it's not something that gets highlighted enough. Maybe they do it already in Holland but I think it should be compulsory for venues to supply the audience with earplugs, even if it's just the cheap foam ones.

Over here you usually can buy cheap foam ear plugs at venues for 50 euro cents, one euro max

Always earplugs and also trying to stand in the center (best sound/view). I hate being on a side and having all the sound go only in one ear (and quality is worse).
First row is sometimes similar, so I tend to stay a little back, something like 9th or 10th row (when it's a packed venues)...

best place for the sound is right in front of or right behind the mixing table
