I would like to know everyone's favorite songs over 10 minutes in length. Maybe someone will even post a song that I have never heard, so I can check it out. My favorites are

Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var (Not my favorite song from Varg, but the atmosphere it creates is unparalleled. One of the riffs is awesome too.)

Symphony X - The Odyssey (Words can't really describe how good this song is. Amazing. The solos, keys, and drums area all great through the 24 minutes)

Opeth - The Moor (The intro alone is worth all the praise this song gets from us Opeth fans. Everything about the song is perfect, Mikael's vocals, the acoustic guitars, the heavy guitars, also I heard there is a sigh in the song, and nobody know how it came to be there. None of the band members sighed while recording, so I wonder what it was...)

Nile - Unas Slayer of the Gods (The horns in the middle of the songs are what really make this song a favorite of mine. The solo helps a little too)

Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno (My favorite Iced Earth song. It has some of the best lyrics and riffs ever. "Abandon all hope who enter here")

Iron Maiden- Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Maiden must be mentioned in this list for me. THis is my favorite 10+ minute song by them because of the mellow part of the songs and the feeling that this song evokes]

I could go on and on, but I won't. The reason I didn't choose a Dream Theater song is because I can't choose one, same goes for Porcupine Tree. Also there are way more good Opeth songs than this, but I won't post them all.

Thanks for posting!

Rundgang Um Die Transzendentale Saule Der Singularitat is another really good 10+ minute song. It may sound repetitive to most people, but I think that the song is pure genius. It creates a really cool atmosphere and it is, in my opinion, the best 'sleeping' song ever.

what a fucking title!!!! im german but im actually not understanding what this means its "a tour through the.." whaaat??? dont belive that this track is good with such an title it cant be good!!

It is a Burzum song form the album Filosofem (my avatar). I didn't put some accents in, so maybe that messes up your translation. Here it is with the accents: Rundgang Um Die Transzendentale Säule Der Singularität. In english, it is supposed to mean "Tour Around The Transcendental Pillars of Singularity"

Dream Theater's Glass Prison..... And a techno song called Divine Moments Of Truth by Shpongle.

The former is just a great fucking song, loads of good musicianship. The latter is simply awesome. It has a tribal feel which I really dig.

Well the most obvious one to me is Meshuggah's Catch 33.

Neurosis has a lot of songs that are over ten minutes, and I enjoy most all their stuff. One of my favourites is probably the title track from Through Silver in Blood. Percussive... repetative... awesome.

Also on the list is the only Isis song I really liked: The Beginning and the End from Oceanic.

In descending order, my favorites:

(1) "Pushit (Live)" - TooL, from album "Salival"
I love the use of the Tabla by Danny Carey.

(2) "Hearts Alive" - Mastodon, from album "Leviathan"
Just unexpected epicness. Outro is phenomenal.

(3) "Light of Day, Day of Darkness" - Green Carnation, from album "Light of Day, Day of Darkness"
Album with only one 60min. 06sec. song. Epic journey, very progressive style.

I am a big fan of Nile's song "Unas Slayer of the Gods" from their album 'In Their Darkened Shrines.' Not only does Nile's excellent songwriting take you on a journey through Egyptian lore while keeping you entertained and on the edge of your seat but the song also just happens to kick ass. A favorite of mine.

I forgot the mighty Tomhet by Varg also, this 14 minute ambient masterpiece makes you feel so distanced and faraway from everything and is truly how ambient music should be done. It is so unique this one track the feel it gives the listener is intense and mighty to put it mildly.

i wouldn't consider that my favorite 10+ minute song, but i agree with you it's a great thing to listen to when i want to seperate myself and relax from the day.

Currently in my files I have 131 songs that run 10 minutes or more, and I like most of them so it's not easy to single anything out. If I avoid some obvious ones like Opeth, Dream Theater and Iced Earth it still leaves much to choose from... So I guess I'll pick something that I've discovered just recently, then my favorite must be "Adulruna Rediviva" by Therion, the 13,5 minutes long epic finisher track off their latest masterpiece. It is just so massive and intense, filled with many parts that are related to each other and flow together into a solid powerful song. One of these parts strangely reminds me of some Gamma Ray song, because the vocal melody is very similar to it. I guess that song was Dethrone Tyranny or some another track off the No World Order album.

Yeah well quite a few bands actually. Its quite a trend for most bands to have long songs. One of Graveland's songs is around 22 minutes or so. I think Himann mentioned it in his list.
