Seven long years passed since the game-changer that was Ordo Ad Chao got released. It was an extremely complex album with a sound so different from what Mayhem (or any other band for that matter) had done before, that a somewhat mixed reaction was to be expected. I gladly put my tent on the fan camp though. This is why Blasphemer's departure worried me as it turned more difficult to guess how the final product would sound like?

Don't know why are people organisming over this. For the most part, this is just standard black metal that just breezes by without anything sticking. When the album slows down, it gets really good (Milab and Posthuman) as it starts to show some measures of uniqueness and Attila is amazing as always but other than that, its kinda meh.

They orgasm so hard that their bladder flys out of their dick.

Totally what I meant.

Well, I am certainly enjoying the shit out of this right now. OAC took years before I started appreciating it, this is clicking with me right away. I can't really tell if it's a change of taste for me personally over the past 7 years, or this album is that much better...

Very good album

I prefer Mayhem's old style (with Dead), but Attila's vocals are great on this album (better than on De Mysteriis dom Sathanas in my opinion)

I hate it when I see an album that has a rating of 7.9, because it looks so much worse than 8 (it's so weird). I rated this album 9 and I wish to see the album have a rating of 8 not 7.9

We need 1 more high vote (9-10). Then the album will probably be marked as 7.95 (8)

Probably the fact that it's more accessible and easier to grasp than Ordo ad Chao. Don't get me wrong, it's good shit, but I think of this album as the toned-down, clearer-production version of Ordo. I went backwards, listening to this first and Ordo afterwards, and while this album took a bit of time for me to get into, I started enjoying it after much fewer spins than I had to start enjoying Ordo (though now I think that OaC is the slightly better of the two albums).

Don't know why, but I'm just not impressed by this.

To the people who liked/loved it: did it click instantly with you, or did you have to go through it multiple times in order to digest it properly?

I heard the album when it came out but it didn't amaze me much. Then I saw the "Watchers" clip and I was completely amazed by their power! That double bass drum blast in the beginning, Atilla's vocals!... all songs are so dark and sinister! This one is on my top favorite Black Metal albums of all time!

This sounds quite standard (for Mayhem) even tho there are some Ordo Ad Chao elements in this album. My guess is that they still didn't trust Teloch all that much in those days and decided to regress to a sound that is a little bit more traditional, safe, similar to Chimera. However the result still satisfies me a lot, Esoteric Warfare is way more memorable and superior to the aforementioned album.

I believe that with the new album Teloch is gonna get more protagonism.

VI.Sec. alone is so good. Dunno if it would've been better with just 6 seconds of vocals, but those few lines are so impactful.
