i want to know which female in metal everyone thinks did the most for the genre they cover... i tried to find a thread like this, but couldnt, i hope this isnt a double. i find it realllllly odd that noone ever mentions Rachel Heyzer, who was in sinister and occult. i think she really holds her own among the men of the genre (which are of course plentiful)... so what does everyone think? which female did the most, or is the most talented in your opinion, of your favorite genre??

Lori Bravo - or Laura Bravo was the singer and bassist for death metal pioneers Nuclear Death, formed in 1986. She performed solo later, anyways, she was an inspiration for the "metal females" to come. Lori is often considered one of the first females to use harsh singing style, besides Sabina Classen - she began her career with Satan's Angel in 1982.
Saint Gossow is just more well-known, that's all.

I know that band but in that time thay was in underground and are now and 80ties metal female, seems only on nowdays tahy are brave to be like it shood be some time ago

Nina Hagen was so wild. Nina has metal 'pipes'. Outragous stage act.

Doro sounds like she should be singing Abba covers. Her vocals are too 'careful' for metal. She turned a Zepplin tune into elevator music lol.

Hahaha, like they say, theres a bit of truth behind every joke.

Is this turning into just a "Name every female in metal" thread? Im sorry but I dont see how Tarja or Liz Buckingham are all that influential? Lets put a bit of thought behind our responses for once...

Its a tie between Tony Iommi's mother and Doro.

Doro, first more known Metal female.

Not really, because Lita Ford was already well-know before ms. Doro

Yeah, I think you're right. Besides Doro, Angela and Tarja are the most influential metal women. There's a lot of new female vocalists nowadays who are influenced by Tarja, and even some of the most known vocalists are.. like Simone Simons for example.

seriously, Dio pioneered the classic metal hand gesture (Devil Horns) that EVERY metalhead uses today. It was his grandmother that did that to him while giving him the evil eye when he was a child. and that's were he got it.

I think that one of the most influential female vocalists in metal of the 90's is, of course, Tarja Turunen...thanks to her and Nightwish the image of a female fronted bands rose to fame....That's true, as someone already mentioned, that other female vocalists took Tarja as a role model, including Simone Simmons and Nicole Bogner....
Another one that stands for me as a grand figure, is Anneke van Giersbergen...she knows how to add variations to her voice and sing in most interesting and spellbinding ways possible....Anneke has a voice that combines the qualities of Cristina Scabbia (sang with Anneke as a guest tour vocalist in The Gathering), Lotta Höglin and Norah Jones....she is able to cover styles from rock to jazz to gothic and doom....simply ideal I think....
And well...Angela...the most famous of them all who sings extreme vocals and does it well....

Sorry but Anneke she is not so huge I never liked The Gatheringw hit her vocals, only album what I like from band was first album whit male vocals, maybe Tarja are lil overated but Anneke never will reach overated or underated level ,

Litta Hoglin indeed I forgot her, even she didnt do a lot of vocals in Beseech but still her voice are great I love it , realy love it
