Slam is a sub genre of Brutal Death Metal that is characterized by extremely low guttural vocals, a high-pitched snare drum, and of course, slams. Slam is extremely primitive sounding and is very rhythmically focused. All of the instruments, including vocals, are meant to act as percussion instruments.

Slams are short segments in a song where the tempo slows down and the guitars play a very heavy chugging pattern. The drums usually overlap with the guitar by either playing the same exact rhythm as the guitar or playing a much faster rhythm. Slams can be syncopated, or groovy. There are many bands that use slams such as Suffocation or Dying Fetus, but they do not play Slam.

Probably the first and only Slam list on Metal Storm - and quite some gor(e)geous stuff's to find...

for obligatory Torsofuck and in particular for Devourment - their 1997 demo Impaled was my first encounter with the genre but it took me quite some years to fully appreciate its deeply hidden "beauty".

Yeah it doesn't seem like many people like slam on here but it is one of my favorite genres.

That is cool! When I first heard slam I thought it was weird but I almost immediately fell in love with it. I guess I just like how primitive it sounds.

South Africa's pride Vulvodynia just announced a new album for the end of June, so maybe that'll be something for you as well...
First single is still lacking a good measure of slam, though.

Cool, I am familiar with Vulvodynia but I have never listened to a full album by them because it just sounds so manufactured and sterile. However I was planning on listening to them some time in the near future because they are relatively popular band in the brutal death metal genre.
