Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var (Not my favorite song from Varg, but the atmosphere it creates is unparalleled. One of the riffs is awesome too.)
Symphony X - The Odyssey (Words can't really describe how good this song is. Amazing. The solos, keys, and drums area all great through the 24 minutes)
Opeth - The Moor (The intro alone is worth all the praise this song gets from us Opeth fans. Everything about the song is perfect, Mikael's vocals, the acoustic guitars, the heavy guitars, also I heard there is a sigh in the song, and nobody know how it came to be there. None of the band members sighed while recording, so I wonder what it was...)
Nile - Unas Slayer of the Gods (The horns in the middle of the songs are what really make this song a favorite of mine. The solo helps a little too)
Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno (My favorite Iced Earth song. It has some of the best lyrics and riffs ever. "Abandon all hope who enter here")
Iron Maiden- Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Maiden must be mentioned in this list for me. THis is my favorite 10+ minute song by them because of the mellow part of the songs and the feeling that this song evokes]
I could go on and on, but I won't. The reason I didn't choose a Dream Theater song is because I can't choose one, same goes for Porcupine Tree. Also there are way more good Opeth songs than this, but I won't post them all.

Written by spirit_inblack on 13.03.2007 at 00:01 Yes, that seems to be true. Even summoning have long songs (if you like atmospheric BM and haven't listened to them yet, I recommend this band strongly), but abigor create good atmosphere(BM) although they've short songs..

Written by spirit_inblack on 28.03.2007 at 23:00 well i guess the last 2 people didn't get your memo : / but anyways, i dont know if you are a moonsorrow fan or not, but Jäästä Syntynyt / Varjojen Virta (first track off of V: Hävitetty, their new album) is amzing, it has so amny different parts, and keeps changing, but its nto random, its just seems to progress nicely. starts soft, and more elements keep getting added as you go along. its very epic

I don't really like listen so long songs, but there are anyway many good songs. Child In Time by Deep Purple is nice song, there is long guitar solo which sounds good and I don't know why, but it also sounds some kind of funny

Rhapsody - Gargoyles, Angels of Darkness (19:02 - maybe it's not so full of "strong moments" as some other Rhapsody songs, but it is dignified conclusion of the 5-CD saga) Rhapsody - Symphony of Enchanted Lands (13:12 - imo one of their strongest) Rhapsody - The Wizard's Last Rhymes* (10:32 - wonderful mix of the classical theme by A.Dvorak and the power of the Rhapsody's music and singing) Nightwish - Beauty of the Beast * (10:20 - somehow i like this one very very much - especially the final sentence) Nightwish - Ghost Love Score * (10:04 - this is a very special song for me - it made me a kind metal fan) Stratovarius - Destiny * (10:15 - first Stratovarius' song i have heard "for a test"...and i really don't regret this experiment  )* all of them are just slightly over 10 minutes, but they are :-D

This one is an cover. On the Garage Inc. album by Metallica is the song called Mercyfull Fate where they have put together parts MF's curse of the pharaos, evil, satans fall and i cant rememeber if there was an forth one (so long since ive listened to it). It an really great cover, of course nothing compared to the orginals but metallica really adds their own touch to these making them really heavy and i just love Kings way of singing but Hettfield vocals suit their version really good.....be sure to check it out.

10 mins is not that long (if you are into progressive =P) but my top3 would be 3) Blind Guardian- And there was silence 2) Pain of Salvation- Oblivion Ocean 1) Dream Theater- 6 degrees of intern turbulance (live) oh yeah 43 and a half mins long lol and played live =P
