i searched and there was no topic for Tristania so here it is!

as many of you may know already Tristania's upcoming album is called Illumination and it's planned to be released sometime in september. any expectations?

i, personally, have no expectations because i know it'll be something different, as always, so i'm just waiting anxiously to be surprised.

(I put this commentary here because I can't create a new topic xP)

There's an instrumental song of Tristania that I don't find in any of their CDs... it's called Gardenia, and find it on inet was kind of difficult...

Does anybody knows from where it is?

If you got it online (from Limewire or similar P2P sharing network), don't trust the ID3 tags at all. For example, there's a Children of Bodom 'cover' of Fear of the Dark floating around, which is by Cradle of Filth (I believe). I suspect this instrumental is by another band, and has been tagged as Tristania. Use Metal-Archives; if it's not in that discography, it was never officially recorded by Tristania.

EDIT: For the record, I think Illumination is great, although Vibeke has some off moments and bad breathing in places, unlike Beyond the Veil. The new Sirenia, from what I hear of it, is ridiculously bland goth-pop...at least Tristania didn't go down that path too much.

Because Gardenia isn't their song. I remember finding it years ago on some sharing clients under the name ''Tristania - Gardenia''. I really don't know whose it is.

Same with me, I found this song under the name "Tristania - Gardenia".
I also found two other excellent songs called "Kiss The Cross" and "Envy The Dead"
Since any of these songs are mentioned in their albums, I suppose that the same thing that RavenLord mentioned happened

The problem about this song, "Gardenia", it that... it's TOO Tristania... We've found just 6 excepcional seconds of it on SoulSeek, and we "flashed"... then, I search everywhere, search it from another bands, and lots of bands have a song with that name, but no one was like that. So... I downloaded Ares and search it again... And I found it! Complete, this time... If it isn't from them this Gardenia song, so... it's a band too similar to Tristania...

About Illumination... I liked that CD, but as a friend says... it lacks that Tristania powerfull thing... that thing you say "omfg!!"... I don't know the reason Vibeke left, but... could it be that this lower "quality" has something to do...?

Regarding the mystery tracks found online, I put no stock in them. If they are not on official releases, I really don't believe they are their own. I know one of these songs has been around for about 5 years, I think I found it around the time of their World Of Glass release as I was looking for demos, etc. I don't feel it's their own. I do think bands have the ability to clone other bands' sound, so there's no reason that this could not be the case here.

Strange, I don't think Vibeke would leave due to the poor quality of "Illumination," particularly since I don't feel it's of poor quality at all. I can sense a level of deep emotion in all the tracks, especially in the guitar melodies. It's going to be one of my gothic metal releases of the year, and I knew it upon first listen. I'm concerned about the future of the band, but no matter, they've produced a work of eerie sadness and disconcerting melodies. They have progressed - which is more than what so many other gothic bands do.

Me too, I don't think Vibeke left due to the "poor quality" of Illumination, because the later albums gave her the opportunity to experiment with different vocal style and also she had more participation than in the first releases.

Finally got the new album, unfortunatly, its just too plain and uneventful for me. Sure it has some nice melodies but there is nothing that makes you go wow. Vibeke sounds poor and weak, almost to the style of Liv Kristene. I cannot rate any song higher than 4/5 stars. I think my favourite track is the opener.

Well, I just posted it as a news listing, but in case you missed it, it looks like Tristania is ready to announce a new singer soon! The entry on the official Tristania website by Østen sounds very promising, and it's great to see they will not be abandoning their past with a new lineup!

Can't wait to see who the new Tristania vocal is!(But I know she won't be as pretty as Vibeke is... ).

I also hope the new vocal is an operatic singer, too.

I am quite skeptical about this.... Dunno, I just have a really bad feeling about this all.

I don't think Tristania can ever be as good at was, and not to mention, it's impossible to surpass their work as a group. It's such a shame to see a band that was once my #1 most adored and almost worshiped band sinking down. Juts when I though Illumination was a step further from lameass n00b Ashes, Kjetil and the Vibeke left the band, who were pretty much the core of the band in my eyes, since Anders & Einar never managed to make anything as beautiful that I would be amazed and I guess I was more appealed to the image of a band, than to music.

But trying to keep my mind opened and waiting to see and especially hear the new singer

@AnGina--:Thanks for reminding me of that case, and also-here you are: http://tristania.com

My very first reaction when I saw the website was:"Oh,a new singer!So...THIS is the new singer?!"

I don't think she fits Tristania's style and orientation at all.

Okay,she's not ugly,but...Vibeke looks much different.And she fitted Tristania's style,too.
The new one doesn't.

Yea, I checked the page just a few minutes ago and I was like whoooaa Which makes me even more sceptical.

So all fans who don't know yet, Tristania's new singer is Mariangela ''Mary'' Demurtas. On Tristania's web site www.tristania.com you can read more about her, see her video and pictures.

Well, I guess we have to greet her and hope for the best. But I guess my heart is already too broken as it concirns Tristania.

Beyond The Veil FTW!

EDIT: Just saw her video presentation on youtube and I must say I'm shocked. Devastated.

I'm so sorry to say she is totally inappropriate for Tristania. She has somewhat of a powerful voice, but nonetheless, I find it quite... uninteresting, uninspired and.... vast, to say it nicely. She sings like I do when I'm under shower.

Maybe she'll do fine with the upcoming songs/work of Tristania, but she sure fu*ked up the old songs as much as possible.

Gotta say I'm really really disappointed....

i agree. the new vocalist, she's too 'hot' for such a gothic music. If this is Lacuna Coil then she's OK, but we're talking about Tristania I can't imagine how will she sing songs from "World Of Glass" or "Widow's Weeds"

Never really liked Tristania for some reason. I love the old Theatre Of Tragedy, Sirenia, The Sins Of Thy Beloved, but never quite got into Tristania's music. Maybe I'll give them another listen. As for the new singer, I'm not really sure. It definitely wouldn't fit the old Tristania, unless they, like pretty much every other GM band decide to become Gothic Rock, then it would be appropriate. No more good GM nowadays (at least not that I know of :-( ).

@TDFX: Actually, they already leaned more towards gothic rock during their latest album. It's too bad really. I have nothing against gothic rock, but gothic metal as a genre seem to fade out slowly.

Regarding Tristania, they have changed their sound with every record, and get managed to keep their identity. Regardless what album you listen to, you get the feeling "yep, that's Tristania". I was never a big fan of "Illumination", nothing wrong with the music, but it was soon forgotten once you stopped listen to it. Nevertheless they managed to re-new their sound once again. Basiclly , you never know what to expect by Tristania, it could be a sucess or a complete catastrophy, we just have to wait and see. But I do know that I don't want Mary to sing the old Tristania songs!

Well,I watched that video,and I must admit,I wasn't impressed at all. :

Mary has got a good voice for sure, but when I heard her performing old Tristania songs(I could hear Vibeke's voice, too),I didn't like the way the new vocal sounded like.

And I also dislike Mary's voice.Don't know exactly why...

(btw,I don't want anyone to"copy"Cristina Scabbia! )

I've listened to her presentation a few times now, and I think I have changed my opinion about Mary. She actually sings the "illumination" songs quite well, I even got intrested in "Sanguine sky" and "lotus", which I haven't been before, though I'm still not sure about the older albums, I didn't like her interpretation of "Libre". I actually think Mary can be a contribution to Tristania, once she get her "own" material(no, it's not just my hormones talking).

They found a new singer...good for them. As expected hardly anyone likes her because she is attractive. IMO no one can't be serious if they claim to be able to judge her voice from that video presentation...I for one couldn't. Let's give her some time to settle in...and do the real judging when they release something "real"

Well that's just my opinion, but I've never been a big fan of Tristania and don't think it will change with the new singer

I don't really care about how she looks, she's pretty, but that really has nothing to do with the music. But....her style....it's so...not-Tristania. She's a good singer though, and hopefully she'll be able to salvage Tristania in the future, because quite frankly "Illumination" is crap. I was terribly disappointed in it. But anyway, hopefully her style will work for 'em. If nothing else, her accent's nice...it adds to the sound. Hope for the future!

Im not really impressed with the new singer at all. i dont think she suits the band. everytime i think of her singing in Tristania, i think how is she going to sing their older songs, because Vibeke has an operatic voice and i dont think the new singer can do it.
i also dont like their webpage now coz the new singer is all over it and she looks like a model or something.

I like the work Mariangela's done with her prior bands, Alight & Reel Fiction... but it will be certainly interesting to see how she will fit with Tristania. I was not overly impressed with her in the video clip that was released; however, I don't want to judge her solely based on that. Vibeke Stene is one of my favourite vocalists of all time, though, so to me, nobody can truly replace her. Her voice was and is perfect for Tristania. That being said, I think I'll still give Mary a shot.

Interesting, I didn't even know they acquired a new vocalist. Then again, after hearing World of Glass and Illumination (that's the correct name of the most recent album right?) I wasn't really interested anymore. At the same time I don't quite appreciate the female vox as much anymore as I used to. It's still nice now end then though... Nice enough to check this new singer out.
