It's totally weird but I can't pay for a download. Unless I have something physical in my hands. I don't feel like I own it.

I agree, I'm not paying for the music, I'm paying for the collectible aspect of it.

I've only bought a few digital downloads, and none were over $2.

I'm sure the average musician would love to hear that.

Would you pay for a digital picture of a painting?

I'm exactly like that. Unless I have a physical copy in my CD shelf, it doesn't feel I'm owning the album. Never paying for downloads.

Not to get too off-topic, but I think of paintings and music as apples and oranges. I would pay for digital music (Bandcamp) but that's because I get to keep the files on my hard drive. I wouldn't buy a digital picture because I'd rather be able to frame it or hang it up somewhere rather than just keeping it buried in a folder or displayed as my desktop background.

I'm thinking this about albums as well. Need to have the albums I own visible in the shelf, not stored on the computed, not visible

So we can keep this about 2014 albums and not about preferences, any discussion about format should be taken over here: http://www.metalstorm.net/forum/topic.php?topic_id=8376

Recently found a pretty good Finnish death metal band called Lie in Ruins. They're on the same label as Mitochondrion and Corpsessed. A pretty nice mix of old school riffing, modern/dense production, and great howling-ish vocals.

Yeah this is a great one. Dark Descent records have really been pumping out the great OSDM this year.

Here's a few other things that I've been listening to.

Stoner/Sludge by Towers

bandcamp

Raw, gross, and under-produced hardcore like stuff by Loinen

bandcamp

Really accessible death/funeral doom by Woe Unto Me

bandcamp

Decent raw doom/sludge stuff by Coltsblood

bandcamp

Really upbeat blackened thrash by Ancient Ascendant

bandcamp

Very standard atmospheric black metal with hints of other genres scattered around by Waldgeflüster

bandcamp

And finally some absolutely fantastic doom/sludge with tons of post elements by the amazing, the one, the only, Dirge

That artwork is sexy as hell. Looks like the artist of Sunn's Black One doing an impression of a Justin Bartlett piece.

Disappointed that the music doesn't live up to the cover art.

I could never even imagine myself voting for a video in the awards, but if this one makes it this year I'll probably give it a vote. Very cool stuff. The song is also excellent. It is Conan though of course, so to be expected.

Holy shit the new Conan is out! Thanks for the reminder. As for the vid and song, most definitely a Mammoth sound as usual I hear.

When I have a little bit of time I will check this. Their first was one of the best debut albums in the few last years for my taste.
