I really enjoy those 10+ minutes songs, because I can just start them in the player and i don't have to care that the music will stop and I will have to select some other track within next minutes...

the longest i have heard whole so far are :

Manowar - Achilles, Agony And Ecstasy In Eight Parts (28:36) *
Symphony X - The Odyssey (24:10) *
Rhapsody - Gargoyles, Angels of Darkness (19:02)

* - interesting that both those longest have inspiration in Homer - one in Iliad, second in Odyssey

Extremely good. Their last album is a pleasant acoustic work. Their first (predecessor to 'Light of Day...') is very good - especially the 15-minute long 'Under Eternal Stars', which has a similar feeling to Light of Day, Day of Darkness. Their middle era (A Blessing In Disguise/The Quiet Offspring) is somewhat more straightforward and catchy stuff. Not the kind of grand work of art they pulled off earlier. But still well written and played - great music.

I must admit i havn't heard a great deal of their other work, just a few songs but i must say that i have enjoyed what i have heard besides Light of Day, Day of Darkness and is probably well worth aquiring.

Well, Rush's 2112 (song) is about 20 minutes long (not metal, but great song that doesn't get boring),
Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade Of Gray (if considered as a single song) is over 50 minutes long...
Shadow Gallery has some 10+ minute songs,
Death Angel - The Ultra Violence (song) is about 10 minutes long

I was going backwards from page 5 to page 1 just ssanning what people said and I couldn't believe noone put The Ultra-Violene down and then I saw you did yeah it's not an hour long but that is probably my favorite "long song" ever!

also not metal would be Iron Butterfly - In A Godda Da Vida which is about 20 minutes. I have that one on vinyl...it takes up one whole side haha

and ofcourse, I have some Opeth albums and all their songs are long. My favorite by them would eaither be Wreath or Deliverance...both over 10 minutes long.

I never heard of these other songs some of you mentioned, an hour is pretty fuckin long! I don't know if I would have the time to listen to that either! When I listen to music, it's usually only a few songs at a time (when I'm driving). I don't have much time otherwise.

Ah well guys ur talking about journey songs ..i would offer one song i lisned lasted for 1 hour and 10 seconds !! ...thats song from Abruptum album released in 1994 and the song its called ( In Umbra Malitiae Ambulabo, In Aeternum In Triumpho Tenebrarum ) what can i say about it , its just pure evil against art in general!! just raw sound pure screams , random bass and awful quality guitars , and the drums holy shit !! so low and slow there isnt no blast beats as you can expect from a black metal release !! this is just an expetion who just make it more horrible and weird!! btw the members claim that while they were releasing this song ( they were torturing themself !! the whole screams are unusual and original pain and hell )
i really offer this song to those who appreciate the anti art musician ship !! otherwise i call it a pure art and genuicity by those swedish guys !! try to lisen to it and find your nightmare you were escaping from through your life !!

How the fuck does one listen to a song that's an hour+? Shit i like alot of long metal songs too ( opeth, Neurosis) but holy shit i think i would fall asleep. lol i don't know they might be good if i had the patience. Just seems kind of pointless to have a song that long.

I agree...songs broken down into "parts" cannot be included in this forum topic! Blasphemy I tell you!
Btw, I just listened to Jesu's first EP = 2 songs. one 19 minutes the other 20 minutes long ,,, EPIC, ftw.

When it comes to the longest songs ever recorded, Nǽnøĉÿbb?rğ VbëřřĦōlökäävsŦ (pronounced Nanocyborg Uberholocaust) pretty much take the cake. You think two hours is long for an album, try 20. Here's proof.

How many times do we have to go over this? 'Crimson' by Edge of Sanity is 'one' of the longest tracks AND definitely the best, most technical, most melodic, atmospheric, -place your element of preference here-, long track you could possibly hear.

To be honest, it consists of nothing but ambient noise, but it's still a billion times better than Brokencyde.

Helio)))sophist - Sun O))) goes for like 46 minutes, and Like Gold and Faceted - Earth goes for 30 minutes. Does edge of sanity's crimson count as one song? Or porcupine tree's the incident?

lol, so true, especially the instrumental Suicide and Redemption. Makes me want to commit suicide sure, but there's no redemption for this lazy idea of a song.

Not sure if it's been mentioned or not but my favorite lengthy metal song is Mercyful Fate - Satan's Fall. Brilliant song and every minute means something. In addition, Iron Maiden - Rime Of The Ancient Mariner is certainly as good as any 10+ minute song ever made in metal. Finally, Black Sabbath's version of Heaven and Hell on the album Live Evil is fantastic. It checks in at just shy of 12 minutes.
