I got this album as a Christmas gift some years ago. I used to listen to Helloween with my friend and this was the only album we hadn't heard. He paid something equal to 8 dollars (the backside said 30 $m imported from the U.S) which says pretty much about what people think about this album. At first I didn't like it at all because it was not metal enough of course. People seem to look at this album as Helloweens "Risk" or "St. Anger" and they all think it's to much pop/rock and not enough metal. I absolutely disagree, and especially nowadays when I've started to be more open minded with music. In my opinion, Helloween does this kinda music great and much better than most other bands. The daring to do something different - and succeeding (that's what I think) is so unique for power metal bands, Hammerfall for example wouldn't want and wouldn't be able to create something like this.

The album is not all soft and commercial, in fact there are few songs the band is out of their comfort zone. I for one respect that.

Yes, it is not only soft, but also extremely pretentious and superficially experimental. Awful combination. Don't get me wrong, I love Helloween and I try to be respectful to all musicians because I know how hard it is. But when I hear BS - I call it how it is.

Why is it only "superficially experimental"?!
Extremely pretentious?! Hardly.

Yeah, exactly, you didn't know what it's mean too? Okay, I explain, again. But if you only gonna ask how and why - this conversation stops being interesting.

"superficially" - it's when something done on a surface level.
+
"experimental" - when band doing something new for them.
=
weak attempt of creative writing.

"Extremely" - means - very.
+
"pretentious" - when band try to appear as something they aren't.
=
maybe you can hear in this album some strange horns, pop-y melodies, unfitting harmonies? All this artsy, pseudo progy stuff? Well, this is it.

P.S. It's NOT a Power Metal album! >__<

Except it is though. Just a very soft one. Do you not see the genre tag at the top of the page?

I wasn't making fun of you or laughing at you, just surprised you had more words of negativity at the album, more descriptions I did not agree with.

I understand why some people dislike this album, it's how they say it sometimes can be bothering I guess.

I decided to listen to this album to make sure if it was really that bad, when listening to the first minutes of the first track First Time I thought for a moment that the bad reputation of this album was perhaps exaggerated, but after 1:26 minutes everything goes down the drain, and the next two songs are painfully bad, the songwriting is confusing, it feels like a damn bad style salad, the only reasonably decent songs are Crazy Cat, Giants and Music, and on a good day Step Out of Hell, I Believe and Longing, which despite being relatively decent songs still has boring parts, and a somewhat questionable duration, most of the songs are at least 5 minutes long, this long duration doesn't seem justified, it's more like sausage stuffing.

I see people complaining about the length of Keepers I, but it's better to have a really good, short-lived album than one like this full of bad songs. Sometimes I think “How did they have the courage to release this and still insist on doing a tour focused on most of these songs?, as the album was hated by Keepers fans and did very poorly commercially”. I don't know what went through Weikath's head for him to think that this was good, he was probably on Kiske's wavelength, who is a guy who never really liked metal, it's really impressive how a band can release something as good as Walls Of Jericho or Keepers and then this, the bad reputation of this is justified, the album may not be unlistenable, but it is far from good.
