By this I do not mean your favorite albums, what I wanna know is which albums are most important, dearest or means the most to you. It could be the album that got you into metal, the album that changed everything you thought you knew about music, the album someone you like gave to you and of course, it can also be your favorite album.

My list:

Metallica - Master of Puppets, Metallica, Load, ReLoad, S&M
MoP has been my favourite song ever since I first heard it when I was 12. That album changed my life and fully got me into Metal, it made me know that Metal is everything for me. The Black Album was a very early album for me, helped me got into the genre and was the second album I bought. The two follow-ups are maybe not the best albums ever but when my family went to Greece and drove around the country in a car my mom had a walkman and a tape with those two albums on, which she gave me. I listened to it and loved it and this was before I got into Metal. S&M was my first live album and I'm such a sucker for both Metallica live and orchestras.

Iron Maiden - Dance of Death, Brave New World, Rock in Rio, Somewhere in Time, Killers
DoD was the very first album I bought. BNW and RiR was the first Metal I liked, the first step to a Metalhead. SiT was one of my first albums and Killers... well, it's such a magical album which was there for me many times.

Children Of Bodom - First four studio albums
All their first four albums helped me become a Metalhead and appreciate more extreme metal. These albums are classics to me and this band means so much for me.

These three bands and their albums are listed first for many reasons. They remind me of a much easier and happier time in my life. But the main reason is because they were the only, and I mean ONLY Metal, I listened too for like 4 years! I thought it didn't exist any more good bands, seriously. But then this band came:

Norther - Dreams of Endless War
Since I heard that these guys would sound like CoB there was no doubt if I should get an album. So I bought DoEW and it changed everything. It made me realise that there exist more bands and so much better Metal out there!

I guess that Norther really helped me become the person I am today, or maybe the Metalhead I am today.
Now the list goes on without any special order.

Dream Theater Images and Words, Metropolis Pt 2: Scene from a Memory
These albums made me see that Metal has so much to offer. DT played music and made me feel in a way I didn't thought was possible.

Cradle Of Filth Damnation and a Day
Because this one made me get into Black Metal. (Don't cry all Black Metal fanboys, I know it's not a Black album... at all )

Nightwish Oceanborn, Wishmaster
Got me into female vocals.

Enslaved - Eld, this album converted me into more extreme metal, and also inspired me to pick up the guitar, also Atheist's Unquestionable Presence and Death's Symbolic are very important to me, as they helped to destroy my prejudices about death metal.

Seeing as I haven't posted in here yet, I can give my opinion on it for once. It might chance but I doubt I'll update it, since this is a bit of a spammie topic.

Anyway, for the past half year the album of my life has been Shining - The Eerie Cold. Not only for it's amazing music and atmosphere, but also because it really 'clicks'. I am not a misanthropist like Kvarforth is, nor am I nearly half as negative as he is, but it has been one of my favorite albums to relax to. It really has become some sort of a therapy album. *violin solo*

I remember a few years back I think when I was in 8th grade (Im a senior now), I was playing Gran Turismo 4 and they had the song "Freewheel Burning" by Judas Priest, I thought that song was the shit! During that time I liked Linkin Park, Ozzy, Sum41, Blink 182, and rap. I knew my dad liked Judas Priest so I looked at his album collection, I found one of Judas Priest, "Priest...Live!". I listened to Freewheel Burning often, growing to other songs on that list. I was obsessed with that album for atleast a year, no joke! My tastes in music grew after that full year of Priest Live. I hate rap now, I dont hate punk but I dont mind it. Thank God for video games! lol

Zombie, M.D.
Det Som En Gang Var by Burzum. Despite my tendency to gush over whatever band Im obsessing over at the moment, this has been my absolute favorite release since I bought it. It totally changed the way I think about and listen to music. While on one hand it can be perceived as amateurish, especially to an extreme metal newcomer, theres something about it that I couldnt and still cant quite describe accurately. Its a really honest and human (how often are those words used describe black metal?) recording. In retrospect, it makes me think of this documentary I saw on "outsider art". Artists who have little to no "real" training in their medium but go on to make these really interesting and alienated works. They dont worry about things other artists worry about because they dont have a real concept of what its "supposed" to be. Anyway, that cd blew my head clean off the first time I heard it and it will always be important to me.

Did I mention I tend to gush over music I really like?

I agree with most of what you say, and it is definitely true that artists that are fresh to the thing usually create much uniquer stuff. That's also the biggest criticism on art schools over here.

Emperor's In The Nightside Eclipse

Man, now that album touches me like a priest touches a young virgin child.

But on a serious note, it's a great album, and a soundtrack to countless stargazing/potsmoking/taking a long hard look at my life sessions.

Dude I know exactly what you mean man that album does the same shit for me. But I think In Flames' "Lunar Strain" is more of a meaningful album for me. I've always loved that album, but it sounds so different from the rest...

Nightwish - Once
Basically got me into the metal scene (after having listened to rock mostly)

Epica - The Phantom Agony
Made me able to listen to growls and stuff (couldn't stand them before)

Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
Got me into heavier kinds of metal (still atmospheric), as well as made me appreciate music more

Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Got me into more extreme kinds of metal (never black/grind though...) Might also have been Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated, which I listened to at approximately the same time.

Dream Theater - Mt. Prt. 2: Scene from a Memory
This one made me realise what is possible on instruments in human hands, while calling the product metal Got me into prog metal

Sonata Arctica - Ecliptica
After getting used to clean vocals, sang by males, with prog metal, this album got me into power metal, yay! And next to that some heavy metal like Iron Maiden/Saxon
