I noticed that bassists are always the happiest and funniest members of the bands. When I attend a concert I usually watch them. My favourite players are those who I saw live. Dani Evans, Jarkko Aaltonen, Simo Lehtonen, Gunnar H. Thomsen...

02.01.2009 - 20:00 Written by spirit_inblack on 29.12.2006 at 19:15 Thank you!!! I never thought someone would say that. That dude is my favorite bassist hands down. His work on !T.O.O.H.! is just out of this world and the song you said have a really awesome bass solo that slays every bassist I've heard in my life. And the best thing is that it's Grindcore... Few bands have such a clean sound so the bass hears so good. Another bassist I really like is Martin Mendez from Opeth... In cds like Still Life and Damnation he really shines.

10.01.2009 - 05:26 Written by X-Ray Rod on 02.01.2009 at 20:00 Fuck yeah man! i sometimes wonder why he doesn't get more credit, the bass on Rad A Trest is amazing. Another bassist that i quite like is Infestuus from Glorior Belli/Obscurus Advocam. He claims that it is his favorite instrument and rightfully so. The bass on Verbia Daemonicus really adds to that album, unlike many Bm bands.

Wow, the only reason I hadn't posted in this thread is that I thought I had many, many years ago. I'll pull a 15 month old quote to second it... Written by Doc G. on 13.10.2007 at 07:24 Frank's basswork is a lot of fun - drives the songs along. I love the fill he does during the pre-chorus section of "Caught in a Mosh" during the "talking in to you... ... is like clapping with one hand" section... check around 1:20-1:27 of the song. might not be the most technical guy, the most innovative, or whatever, but he's the guy i'd want on the bass.

13.01.2009 - 02:44 Written by BitterCOld on 12.01.2009 at 19:51 Thats what bass should be. This may sound weird but I prefer less technical bass players for that reason, its a fucking rhythm instrument, leave the wanking to the guitarists or in some cases the keyboardist. Over technicality in bass lines really defeats the purpose of the instrument itself IMO. Frank Bello satisfies every need for a driving force in a rhythm section. My two personal favorites from Frank Bello are the intro to 'Lone Justice' and about 3:35-3:50 in 'A.I.R'. EDIT: Also, like yourself Caught In A Mosh is one of my favs, but my favorite part of that song is about 0:21-0:41.

31.01.2009 - 18:19 Written by Endoftherainbow on 06.08.2006 at 06:10 I dont think being a great bass player is about being innovative though man. If you can play, you can play no matter what. Myung can play with the best of em these days. Incredible live as well, if any of you get a chance to check Dream THeater out live, do it and watch him. By default guitar players and frontmen get most of the eyes at shows but this guy deserves a look at a concert. Its incredible to see how fast and presice the man plays live. Anyways, amazing bassist. Im gonna have to give a shout out to Tony Choy as well. Its gotta be hard playing with all these technical death metal masters and hes done it all. Hes a standout for sure
