By this I do not mean your favorite albums, what I wanna know is which albums are most important, dearest or means the most to you. It could be the album that got you into metal, the album that changed everything you thought you knew about music, the album someone you like gave to you and of course, it can also be your favorite album.

My list:

Metallica - Master of Puppets, Metallica, Load, ReLoad, S&M
MoP has been my favourite song ever since I first heard it when I was 12. That album changed my life and fully got me into Metal, it made me know that Metal is everything for me. The Black Album was a very early album for me, helped me got into the genre and was the second album I bought. The two follow-ups are maybe not the best albums ever but when my family went to Greece and drove around the country in a car my mom had a walkman and a tape with those two albums on, which she gave me. I listened to it and loved it and this was before I got into Metal. S&M was my first live album and I'm such a sucker for both Metallica live and orchestras.

Iron Maiden - Dance of Death, Brave New World, Rock in Rio, Somewhere in Time, Killers
DoD was the very first album I bought. BNW and RiR was the first Metal I liked, the first step to a Metalhead. SiT was one of my first albums and Killers... well, it's such a magical album which was there for me many times.

Children Of Bodom - First four studio albums
All their first four albums helped me become a Metalhead and appreciate more extreme metal. These albums are classics to me and this band means so much for me.

These three bands and their albums are listed first for many reasons. They remind me of a much easier and happier time in my life. But the main reason is because they were the only, and I mean ONLY Metal, I listened too for like 4 years! I thought it didn't exist any more good bands, seriously. But then this band came:

Norther - Dreams of Endless War
Since I heard that these guys would sound like CoB there was no doubt if I should get an album. So I bought DoEW and it changed everything. It made me realise that there exist more bands and so much better Metal out there!

I guess that Norther really helped me become the person I am today, or maybe the Metalhead I am today.
Now the list goes on without any special order.

Dream Theater Images and Words, Metropolis Pt 2: Scene from a Memory
These albums made me see that Metal has so much to offer. DT played music and made me feel in a way I didn't thought was possible.

Cradle Of Filth Damnation and a Day
Because this one made me get into Black Metal. (Don't cry all Black Metal fanboys, I know it's not a Black album... at all )

Nightwish Oceanborn, Wishmaster
Got me into female vocals.

Mmm Hard question.. all my album has some fellings inside.

But for me... Devil Doll's albums.
They are just... insane [lyrics, music and vocals.]
And Sacrilegium was the first song-album that make me feel fear.

I certainly can't recall all of them but here's some of the most important :

Rammstein - Mutter
As I recall, the first metal plate I ever listenend to. As it got me into metal it also worked as a inspirator to start study german, which is a optional subject in most finnish schools. So I really praise this album.

Slayer - Reign In Blood
This album got me into thrash and death metal ( special thanks to Angel Of Death ) which are my favourite genres today.

Death - The Sound Of Perseverance
It finally erased my long-lasted fear towards technical death metal and progressive music in general.

Obituary - Frozen In Time
Set ablaze my intrest towards old school death metal and taught the important lesson of 'speed is not the key' and so began my quest for death metal perfections like Obituary and Asphyx.

Son of Odin
Many to chose from but the following albums means a lot to me:
Iron Maiden - Piece of mind, The number of the beast, Powerslave, Somewhere in time, Seventh son of a seventh son
Black Sabbath: Black sabbath, Paranoid, Master of reality, Vol 4, Sabbath bloody sabbath
Judas Priest: Sad wings of destiny, Rocka rolla, Defenders of faith, British steel, Painkiller
Alice Cooper: Love it to death, Killer, Billion dollar babies
King Diamond: Them, Conspiracy
Helloween: Keeper 1 & 2
Kiss: Creatures of the night

This album puts my mood up.

I would say "The Number Of the Beast" because of reasons obvious to everyone

What would those so-called obvious reasons be? Because I can't thin of any.

Most people(including me) started to listen to because of either Metallica or Iron Maiden
Of these to Maiden( or a least for me) was the dominating one. Of all Maiden's albums the best known and mostly listened to one's are "Powerslave", "Piece Of Mind", "Somewhere In Time" and of course "The Number Of The Beast". When I was 12, or so, the best of these was "TNOTB"(And I think this is the same for most people). It was the albums because of which I started to listen to metal and many other people started as well. These are some of the reasons, and I think you knew them all and know most of the others, but you simple were arrogant or wanted to appear intelligent in the eyes of other people so you had to ask such a question.

Okay that is a good reason for the album meaning most to you. And yes to some people the album that means most to them is the one that got them into metal, but that is not the case with loads of other people. Kiss - Dynasty got me into metal but is NOT the album that means most to me. SO for me it wasn't apparent why The Number Of The Beast would mean the most to you, it could also be because of personal reasons etc.
SO my question wasn't meant to be arrogant and I didn't know the answer, if I did know why would I ask it?

And why the hell would I want to appear intelligent in the eyes of others? Sorry, but I do have a life.

Led Zeppelin 4 was my first album ever. I have 2 cds, a tape, and an original pressing of the vinyl. Great album, though I know a lot of people who just buy it for Stairway, which is sad.
Farewell to Kings by Rush is a close second. I like 2112 just as much, but Farewell was the second album I ever got.

Highway to Hell and Back in Black came after that, but the album that I truly hold in the highest regard is Master of Puppets, which was my first Metallica album and got me into metal.

In my town(it's a small one) most people who listen to metal started to listen with "The Number Of The Beast", and many other people to who I talked to told me the same. So I thought that ,even if it isn't the case for them, people would understand what I meant with my obvious reasons. So I am sorry if I offended you

The album that means the most to me is Theatre of Tragedy's self-titled album which I think was their first release. At age 16 I had made a gradual transition from pop music to grunge to trip-hop and couldn't imagine anything more satisfying, until I discovered ToT. Though they have made better albums since their first, 'Theatre of Tragedy' opened up a whole new world for me. It was full of melodies I never could have imagined existed before (eg 'Hollow-Hearted, Heart-Departed').

Albums that mean a lot to me are the ones with which I have strong memories attached to. They may not be the best albums ever but their distinct sounds always leave me reminiscing of good times, good smells...

Tool - Lateralus (The interlude in Tick and Leeches is like the sun going down on a hot summer day, with the cool night breeze rolling through)
Cynic - Focus (driving down to Ocean City, MD through torrential downpours)
Opeth - Morningrise (The smell of damp woodland fauna, the burning of a campfire, surveying the mountain slopes as snow falls)
Nine Inch Nails - Still (warm June Hawaii rain)

Well, what season is it in Australia? At least you don't have to only visualize those hot summer days, you can just keep your eyes open...

I'm having a tough time choosing between In Search Of Truth, Recreation Day, and The Inner Circle for the most meaningful Evergrey album, maybe I'll just go with Tom on Ayreon's 01011001.

Good point though I've seen hotter summers - we all feel a little cheated this year

I think Recreation Day has more energy than the other albums (and was the first album I listened to so it will always have meaning for me!) though The Inner Circle is a close second. Haven't heard much Ayreon though people have told me to check them out so I suppose I should!

Metallica - Master of Puppets... I started to listen to Metallica from Reload and S&M, but when in 2005 I listened to MoP, it just amazed me (before that I didn't listen and understand it much). After listening to this album I started to love thrash metal.

I also can't help mentioning Heavenly with their masterpiece Dust to Dust. It opened my eyes to power metal and the experience was almost just like with MoP.

Slayer - Seasons in The Abyss (Its just sooooo damn good)
Metallica - Master of Puppets (I'll never forget the day I first heard the title track on the radio, the DJ was mixing it with Madonna or something, hilarious)
Cradle of Filth - Dusk... and Her Embrace (I love this album, it is a brilliantly crafted piece of music)
Anathema - Alternative 4 (the most emotional album ever? think late drunk nights with older ladies)
Entombed - Inferno (these guys reek of metal and this is the album I listen to when I want to feel "metal", which is very seldom)
Uriah Heep - Look at Yourself (the first album I can ever remember enjoying)
Susperia - Predominance (the lyrics are excellent, mixed with too many intoxicating substances, they may just drive you insane)

It's an odd mix and yes... pretty damn commercial, I virtually never listen to any of these albums anymore, but everytime I do they send shivers down my spine. there are quite a few i really like that aren't metal so I didn't list them.
