To people who got into Death when they were making albums like Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy, his vocals on The Sound of Perseverance were horrible. Donald Duck! LMAO! And I'll just say it one more time...Leprosy is and always will be my favorite.

Like Marcel said, The Sound of Perseverance sounds like Donald Duck is doing the vocals. I just prefer Schuldiner's growls over the Donald Duck phase.

31.08.2011 - 02:02 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 16.05.2011 at 21:35 Hmm, I guess I don't really know what Donald Duck sounds like, but I quite like his vocals on that album. I actually prefer them to his earlier stuff, I find him a better "shrieker" than the deeper growl stuff on the earlier records. And the musicianship is a lot more complex on the last two records. In my opinion, Symbolic is probably the best. It sways a lot between Leprosy, Symbolic, and The Sound of Perseverance, but usually comes back to Symbolic. Perfect combination of aggression, catchiness, and more progressive and ambitious songwriting. Leprosy is just a great death metal record, more straightforward, heavy stuff. TSOP is right at the edge of being perfectly progressive, and being obnoxiously progressive, with the constant soloing, riff changes, and odd song structures, it is really entertaining sometimes, and a little annothing other times. I don't share Marcel's complaints about the vocals.

21.09.2011 - 13:59 Written by zero on 21.09.2011 at 13:54 It's not, but then Death have never made a bad album... But I definitely think overall, "Spiritual Healing" is one of their weakest albums. Although the title track, "Low Life", and "Altering The Future" are amongst the best songs Chuck ever wrote.

21.09.2011 - 16:04 Written by zero on 21.09.2011 at 14:03 To me, it's like a progressive version of "Leprosy". It has a similar sound to that album, except the songs are not as straightforward, and it was the first album where Chuck started writing more serious lyrics.

This was a tough one for me as i feel that every death album has something on it that sets it apart from other contemporary albums. Went with TSOP because i lean more towards a technical sound, but that's just my opinion. Death made 7 great albums, and that's a fact.

I haven't heard any of their albums in their entirety, but Human is DEFINITELY NOT their best. I only heard Living Monstrosity off Spiritual Healing and I have a feeling it'll be my favorite Death album. However, I'll keep my vote for later.

Symbolic is their first album I have listened to, and since then it has been my favorite. The Sound of Perseverance is in an extremely close second however.

28.02.2012 - 04:04 Written by Sentinel65 on 27.02.2012 at 01:05 To me TSOP is only good if you look at the musicianship, The production is sterile and boring and the song writing is completely flat, It just lacks memorability for me, As I said the Musicianship (not just Chucks) is top notch and I can admire that, but looking back now I don't get why I liked it. I still think it is Leprosy that is their best, To me it has many of Deaths best songs and its basically Scream Bloody Gore improved in every way so to me it represents the bands ground breaking early material at its peak.

TSOP is best if you don't mind the vocals. They don't sound like Donald Duck to me, more like Cobra Commander from the 80's GI Joe series. Which is a good thing for me. I'm also putting Leprosy and Human as close competitors. Symbolic is definately their worst.

For me, The Sound of Perseverance is their best album. Definitely the most progressive and just all-around entertaining I think.
