Ever go to a concert, and some band you really hate opens them? What were they thinking?!

- Iron Maiden and Bullet For My Valentine. (2006)

Seriously, Trendy metalcore kids don't mix the salty old NWOBHM crowd, that's an assbeating waiting to happen.

- Metallica, Mudvayne, Deftones, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit (yes, Limp Bizkit) (2003)

Proof positive metallica sold out.

-Dragonforce at Ozzfest (2006)

They seriously don't fit in with Black Label Society, Strapping Young Lad, and System of a Down.

Any to contribute?

Dimmu Borgir and Korn. I'm no fan of Dimmu, nor do I hate them for their commercialization of black metal, but for some reason having a band that markets themselves as evil satanic black metalers touring with a bunch of quasi emo wiggers just doesn't seem right... Also I belive that Megadeth toured with Suicide Silence. Shame on you Dave. No need for br00tal scenesters at a thrash show. I can't imagine how irritating it would have been if some dumbass started spin kicking during Megadeth...

I don't think anything mentioned here compares to Billy Talent being part of the Heavy TO lineup
If the idea was to get something non-metal for a change, they could have at least gotten a band that isn't despised by most of the metal community.
And apparently they'll be performing right before Slayer Seriously. Is this a joke? Is someone trying to get Billy Talent killed? As much as I really hope they reconsider, at the same time, I want to see what kind of chaos breaks out when BT gets on stage...

If this post is aimed torwards hypothetical replies then I would have to say Suffocation and Origin going on tour with any deathcore bands.

Job for a Cowboy would be destroyed in seconds if they stepped onto the stage.

I don't mind them (people can listen to what they want to listen to) but mixing metal bands with metalcore is like mixing cookie dough with mayonnaise-it fucking sucks.

Kreator and Eluveitie.

Well, maybe not (if you look at the genre diversity), but they both definitely make a kick-ass live show...so looking at this way, I wouldn't mind seeing them together under the one roof

It was sad - 2/3 of the audience was female and they were there mostly for Eluveitie... when there's Kreator and they are headlining... Not nice...

Think about it from the bands' point of view. The band that you like get to play to a whole lot of people who would not normally get the chance to hear them by touring with a more popular or radically different band, at least some of whom will like what they hear, and some of those will then buy CDs and merch from them, enabling them to continue playing music. Nevermore touring with Disturbed (which was complained about early in this thread) is a fantastic opportunity for Nevermore, it is Disturbed that have the least to gain from that tour, so much so that you could say that they were doing Nevermore a huge favour if they agreed to take them on the road without charging them a buy-in (a depressingly common practice thesedays). Supporting Trivium or Avenged Sevenfold would be a dream gig for quite a lot of the bands talked about on this site, they have the crowd at their shows that a metal band needs to reach to be successful.

You're mostly correct. But good luck trying explaining all that to pimpled 15 yearold kid who's ultimate goal in life is to seek black metal artists that only released one demo in 10 copies that was recorded in lead singer's grandma's basement.

Yes, bands should care about their fans. But bands should care about themselves FIRST, and making sure they secure enough fundings to be able to produce another album, and to appeal to greater audience.

Believe it or not, some bands would be more concered with making good music then having a large fan base. One of the primary requirments for a modern band to establish a large fanbase is to suck.

Well, one that comes to mind is the upcoming Sepultura concert next month where I live.

The lineup is Sepultura, Belphegor, HATE, Neuraxis, Keep of Kalessin, and Bonded By Blood.

I liked old Sepultura, but now... not so much. But thats' not the odd band out. The odd one out is Bonded By Blood. Exodus-esque new thrash metal with a bunch of death and black metal bands and the no longer thrash Sepultura, just seems out of place to me. When I saw BBB on the lineup, my first thought was "What the hell are they doing on there?"

I mean I like Bonded By Blood, I think they are one of the better newer thrash bands, but they really don't mix with the other bands.

I've seen BBB three times live before, they're a killer live band. They may not fit in with the tour, but it'l be a good show. The only reason that would stop me from going to that tour, if it came to my town, would be Sep. Having them on the tour would drive up the ticket price, and seeing as their the headliners, the rest of the bands would have shorter sets. Maybe if they did a reunion with Max and only played from their first four albums...

Oh yeah, tickets for the show are $25 a piece, as opposed to the $15 Death Angel show last Saturday. (Which I'm pissed I couldn't make it too T_T)

And yeah I doubt I'll go to the show. If so, it would probably be mainly for BBB. Not a big fan of the others, while some of their material is ok and I don't mind it. Sepultura nowadays though, not for me. But if they did do a reunion with max and played stuff from their first 4 albums, hell yeah I'd go.

Agalloch and Slipknot. The styles would clash too much in my opinion. The crowd would be full of Slipknot fans that like to be spoonfed non-stop chaos.

Once I saw Slayer opening for Marilyn Manson. Maybe they share some anti-religious ideas, but their music don't have much to do with each other.

Also I didn't like to see Slayer opening for Marilyn Manson. Me and the most of the audience went to see Slayer.

I agree with this from the bands point of view, it also works in favour of fans sometimes. You come back home maybe liking a band that you didn't go to the gig for.
Its happened for my band, where we supported COF and I can't stand COF, the only reason it made sense was that we would be playing to a different audience, and what do you know, it worked in our favour.
As a fan, I would say that you never know, you just might be surprised by the opening/supporting act, even though they are a completely different genre.

Sonisphere UK this year was a strange mix of headliners... well one odd one in the middle of two brilliant performances
Friday - Big 4 with Diamond Head joining them
Saturday - Biffy Clyro???
Sunday - Slipknot
Don't get me wrong think Biffy are good at what they do (not one for me though!) just didn't quite fit with the other acts like Arch Enemy, In Flames, Opeth, Cavalera Conspiracy etc. Gojira were playing in a smaller tent at the same time as Biffy and I have never seen one of the smaller tents so packed during a headline act!
