I'll take a wild guess and say it's because of 2023
You guessed correctly, of course.

I considered having 25, with the extra two being Mutoid Man - Mutants and Bees Made Honey In The Vein Tree - Aion, but I went for the number 23 because it is a) 20 23's list, and b) the number of stab wounds that both Julius Cesar and Euronymous were murdered by.

Nikos' lists and suggestions are always reliable. Strange that the new Fires in the Distance is missing.

Thank you. To be honest, I am baffled as to why I cannot connect with Fires In The Distance. It's a style I generally like, but somehow no death doom album ended up in my list. The releases by The Crawling and Asphodelus were the ones that almost made it. I gave Fires In The Distance many listens, but each time it didn't appeal to me that much. I found the songs to drag longer than they should, more melodic/melodeath-like for my liking, the production sounded a bit off to me, and I am not a fan of the vocals. But I am clearly in the minority, because it has ended up in most people's lists. The cover art is superb, and I certainly appreciate the album, but it's just not for me.

I like all of them, kinda ambivalent to some of them, but some of our common favs like Sermon, Dødheimsgard, and Fleshvessel are nice to see.
I am almost shocked. I expected a comment along the lines of "shit taste", "boo", "who listens to this crap", etc.

I am trying to be nicer this year.
It will probably last a couple of weeks at most.

Great picks, Horrendous and Varathron made my top 10 of the year.
Recently I've come back to the Phlebotomized record and I can see that one being a staple in my future listening too
