Best Swedish Melodic Death/Gothenburg Metal band
One extremely important piece of the melodic death jigsaw puzzle is the Gothenburg style, named after the city from which it originated. It is not certain what band originally started the Gothenburg sound, but it is widely accepted that In Flames, At the Gates, and Dark Tranquillity are the three major popularizers of the style, and some of the only widely known bands to practice it, with newer bands such as Arch Enemy and The Haunted being offshoots of Carcass and At The Gates respectively. -Wikipedia

Not that you need it tho. Anyways so, which one is it for you? I guess this will end up Amon Amarth being the leader. I don't know maybe because they stayed pure from the beginning but my choice is Dark Tranquillity. They are giving the little signs of turning out like In Flames tho but i follow them!

Hm, Clayman is for me a very good album from In Flames. Songs like ''Pinball Map'', ''Only For The Week'', ''Suburban Me'' and ''Another Day In Quicksand'' sound pretty good to me.

Amon Amarth for me. all people that say that In Flames sux.. why you are saying that? and don't came saying that they sound Metalcore now...just because they combine gutural with melodic voices doesn't mean they are Metalcore or that they suck. for example Norther, Dimmu Borgir or Septic Flesh they use melodic voices too and they rock. I love any kind of Metal from Twisted Sister to At The Gates, from Edguy to Slayer and i can't understand the peoplke that say that Metal whitout Gutural voices and screams is not Metal. Remember that Metal was created with clear voices.

I voted for At The Gates. ATG were one of the very first metal bands I ever heard (back in 2000) and I can still remember just how blown away I was by Slaughter of the Soul. For me it is THEE Melodeath/Gothenburg album.

DT all the way. I don't know any other band who keeps making good albums like Fiction after 25 years... At The Gates used to be great, but they are no more, and In Flames... bah they suck nowadays, I think most people agree with this.

I don't know why, but In Flames just seems boring to me. Maybe its just the new stuff overshadowing the old, but it's just not very...metal? Dark Tranquility seems to bore me as well, so Amon Amarth for me.

Ever since hearing Damage Done there is no doubt in my mind that Dark Tranquillity are the kings here. This album is on a whole other level from anything the other bands on the list have done, at least in my opinion.
