You know the drill, post any metal album released/upcoming in 2018 that you listened, found worthy and want to recommend to others.
UK one-man black metal with a heavy wall-of-noise production. Its on Sentient Ruin, so guaranteed to deliver.

Not much interesting stuff lately, can see why no one's posted anything. A couple of nice, noisy black metal things, both taking a different approach. Occelensbrigg Himelvaruwe And a new Conan track. Conan Really great sounding, retro black metal demo. Full of energy and riffage. Artwork is cut off by the player. Witchgöat The full, whopping 10 minutes can be heard here. Lo-fi, atmos black on the soon to be defunct Sentient Ruin. Sounds good. Originally a 2015-tape only release. Shaidar Logoth And for something different, with a bit of colour in, how about some instrumental prog / djent slathered with sci-fi synth. Andromida Uplifting DSBM mixed with ambient and effortlessly-woven subtle electronic elements. Sadness Super tight, drum-focussed black/death. This is of that modern variant style that seems to get quite a few fans, which isn't usually to my taste, but I like the artwork. Throne Missing PSUDOKU? This will tide you over. Wacky, avant-garde grind. Pound Filling all obligatory requirements for a post, this band play death / doom // doom / death and have "Void" in their name, and are also on Sentient Ruin. That's 3 sips right there. Void Rot LotR-themed melodic / atmospheric black metal, but with a thankfully thick and aggressive sound. Keys of Orthanc Instrumental post-metal / rock with nice art. Below A Silent Sky Icelandic black metal. Sounds a bit Oranssi Pazuzu-lite to me. Heift

Yeah, I'm thinking of Fallen Empire, not Sentient Ruin. Ruin / Fallen = kinda the same thing.

Matron Thorn side project. Somewhat psychedelic black metal. Again, weird sound discordance between the first track and the rest. Probably an uploading problem but then it is Matron Thorn producing so could just be his ineptitude. Kadotuksen Portti Moody, dissonant and nasty black / grind / sludge, or somewhere along those lines. A New Machine Crusty doom / sludge. Discrvst Black / death that I dig. Spectrum Mortis Potentially very nice sounding blackened thrash. Really like their artwork for it too.

Some decent sounding stuff I haven't listened to much, so I can clear out some tabs. Post-rock / Metal / Shoegaze. Great logo implementation. Gena Demo version of an upcoming record. Already sounds like great psychedelic black metal. Lunar Temple Absolutely spot-on sounding frosty old-school black metal. Remixed and remastered version of their debut 2002 record. Hetroertzen Really good sounding melodic, possibly Pagan-influenced black metal. Post-black metal niceness. Infera Bruo Interesting sounding Icelandic black. Sounds like they take a different approach on each track, but track 2 is the standout for me, though the last track has some wicked leads. Neamh-mharbh Super solid sounding, pounding OSDM. Grave Dust Japan know how to make some fucking noise. Awesome sounding hardcore / grind. Palm New Windhand track. Haven't kept up with them but they seem to have lost a lot of their murky fuzz since the awesome debut, still better than the last Electric Wizard. Eadem, very cool avant-garde black thing coming out on Iron Bonehead. Lots going on in this song.

Candelabrum - Needs to be here to be unlistened to. This guy had some friends over for wine, real hipsters, and he went for wine in a cellar and fell down in a even deeper cellar and then he recorded this album.

Thick and beefy sounding black/death from Italy. Husk Absolutely kick-ass sounding death metal. Their demo and they have an upcoming full length via Dark Descent as well. Sulphurous More awesome death metal from the Dark Descent camp. Mindfuck of an artwork by Paolo Girardi, one of his gory best. Hyperdontia Malthusian had one of the thickest, bassiest and heaviest sound I've ever for a black/death band. Looking forward to their full length. Malthusian Solid, drum-heavy and bludgeoning black metal in the vein of Old school Marduk records. Kommandant Post-black metal teeming with life and bleeding with emotions, lots of good songwriting on showcase here. Deadly Carnage Yet another great black metal demo here with tons of tremolo picking and riffs that go interesting sounding places. Sanguinary Trance Amazing blend of death with synth passages, one of the most well made combinations of this style I've heard. Valdrin Awesome sounding stoner doom. Instantly catchy, great sounding epic vocals and outstanding songwriting. Definitely one of the highlights in the genre this year. Forming The Void In case you missed, the latest Scientist record kicks all kind of asses in the technical-blackened-hardcore-grind-sludge-doom genres. Scientist

Really folksy doom-y Agalloch/Panopticon inspired black metal with lots of acoustic guitar, tribal vocals, choruses and sweeping melodies. Most fresh sounding bm I've heard this year. Paara An interesting cross between thrash and heavy metal. This is definitely going to be good at the very least and the artwork is great as well. Sepulcher B-horror inspired death/thrash with retro style vocals. No-nonsense and guaranteed to wreck your neck. Shakma Intriguing demo from an underground black metal circle from Portugal. Yet another high potential packing progressive death metal this year. Brood Of Hatred Funtastic and ridiculously awesome sounding deathgrind from France. Brilliant artwork. Whoresnation

Kickass and wicked sounding old school death doom from Boston. Doom part are the highlights. Innumerable Forms Highly death metal-inspired stoner doom from Australia. Sumeru I bet its near impossible to find a more bluesy stoner album current year than this. Great songwriting as well. Jack Harlon & The Dead Crows Epic, woeful and despondent atmospheric black/doom, sounds quite outstanding and definitely worth a listen. Quite fittingly self labelled ''Acadian Black Metal, Cinematic doom metal". Great Cold Emptiness Groovy and jolly good fun album of retro stoner. LaGoon Vicious and seething with occult evil, this is some serious acid spewing blackened death nightmare from Brazil. U.N.C.U.L.T. Solid sounding death/black metal demo. Angrrsth Now its these guys' turn to provide some impenetrable wall of noise black/death packed with as much malice as it musically possible. Hissing Noise infused death/doom from Portland, Oregon. Depleted Tight and well played death metal from Italy. Production is nice and perfect fit for a modern death metal sound. Martyrium And well, there's a new Daughters record coming as well. Yes, they are back after 8 years, the math/noise rock Daughters. Fuck yeah. Daughters Oustanding melodic and atmospheric doom/post-metal from LA. Ancestors Convulsing are back with another vicious slab of blackened death metal terror. Artwork by Jef Whitehead is top notch as well. Convulsing

Post-dump of vaguely interesting stuff not already posted here to listen to later, just to keep on top of things. Surprisingly nothing overwhelmingly good released that I can see in the past 3 or so weeks since I last checked, other than a few I'd already had my eye on (Innumerable Forms, Mare, Bleeth and Hesperian Death Horse which all turned out great). Potmos Hetoimos | Psychotomy | T3RRA-Bu// Moat Cobra | Haustið | Nefast MCMLXXIX Imperceptum | Lost Tribes Of The Moon | Son of the Morning Loputon Suo | Above Aurora | The Surrealist Sulaco | Þ | P O S T L I F E New Dysylumn and House Of Atreus records sounds promising: New Barus, and rerecording of Temple Nightside's debut. Can also stream a track (a 30 minute track that is) from the new Nadja. Sounds kind of incredible. Listen here

27.08.2018 - 19:44 Written by 3rdWorld on 26.08.2018 at 22:30 Oh that's it. Heard they had a project together but ignored that on Bandcamp because of the rubbish name and art lel. Doesn't sound bad. Like a less good than usual Napalm Death with some Nathraky bits thrown in. Can't keep track of all the Aevangelist records at the moment so not sure if this one has been posted. Sounds ok tbh. Ævangelist "Atmospheric" black with an awesomely weird, eerie ambient sound. Dis Orcus Rehersal record from the excellent Palace of Worms. Random set tracks presented as one track played live in their studio. Still sounds great. Loving that artwork too, would be interested to see what it's from. [edit] it's from City of the Living Dead (1980). Palace of Worms Super nasty excellent crust from the UK. Leeched Technical Death-worship, y'all? Zealot Cult New Author & Punisher, for people who like Author & Punisher. Author & Punisher Pretty damn cool sounding post / prog metal with some light black metal elements. Energetic, diverse stuff from the two songs out. Karas Harp infused black metal from the UK. Very unblack sounding but quite well done. They had an Indigogo for this apparently. YYLVA So-called thrash doom. Not sure about that but it's quite decent sounding. And some assorted black metal stuff I found on Youtube. Cultor Noctis | Mephorash | Ulven Infernarium | Shadow's Mortuary | Arkuum Qafsiel | Bonjour Tristesse | 13th Temple

Absolute quality doom from my hometown of Canterbury. Bit of an Alice In Chains vibe with the vox. Shaping up to be one of the best doom things this year. Famyne Big, rich sounding post-hardcore / metal with a shimmering atmospheric. Light on vocals so has an instrumental sensibility. Red Apollo Wacky but contained experimental metal with some grind elements, that I can figure. Great balance in their approach with frenetic variety. Technical as fvck, insanely fun. Dead Empires New Set and Setting track sounds killer. Superior post-metal.

Very nice sounding, slightly dissonant, off-kilter black metal on Transcending Obscurity, from one of the members of Wormed. Lifelost New record from what I assume is the excellent UK blackened death band Spearhead. It's on Invictus so guessing it is those guys. Sick art. Spearhead I assumed Hydra Head were done with new releases but apparently not. Nasty sounding crust / sludge. Erosion As the Bandcamp reviewer states: "Like Godflesh Meets Alice In Chains meets Deftones Meets Ministry " Newbreed Excellent, foreboding black metal EP. Killer sound. Cult of Erinyes Confident sounding doom demo. Dionysiaque Not much in the way of music but the new Vanhelgd is imminent. Vanhelgd teaser Not metal, but a couple of releases this year, one being a split, from Uboa, a Khlyst-ian noise and soundscape nightmare. Uboa MASTER BOOT RECORD has another project, this time mixing synth metal with piano and organ. It sounds awesome; very gothic and Castelvania-esque. KEYGEN CHURCH
